So,

Following on from my "S type no more" thread and my "next car advice" thread, i ignored everyone and went for an X type. Found a really nice 2003 2.5 sport auto with just over 70k on the clock with a full main dealer service history. They wanted 5k which was way over but got them down to 4.4k which is about right.

I'm not doing many miles now a days as i use my motorbike to commute so opted for petrol over D. What was looking to sting me was the ins having just wrote off my last car. Confused best deal was £825, reduced from £950 when i added my old man to the policy. (I'm 26 well, 27 in few days with 7 years protected no claims with 1 acciedent and 1 sp30). Was checking out some of the other companies not on confused then bingo - SwiftCover £550 :D

This is the worst Jag i have owned (having had the XJ8, XKR and S type 2.7 D SE) but its lot of car for 4.4k and im happy :)

Looks pretty good to me - wondering why you'd say:

Granted when compared to your list of previously owned Jaguars this is a lower model it still looks like a lovely car to me

It seems a nice car and im pleased with the buy, i do have this niggling feeling that its "worse" than my other cars though :( It hurt giving up my XKR for an S type, i guess this feels like another downgrade.

I like these but would have chosen different colours for the interior & exterior, Nice car though.

I like the colours, same as the XJ8 I had.

I was looking at a 2.0 SE (silver) but all reviews suggested it was underpowered. Ins wasnt much different between the 2 and for the amount of miles i plan to do the MPG wouldnt have made much odds.

I want one to be honest but i want a lot of motors lately as my atitude has changed loads recently. I like'em in Red & that Blue they do, As far as the interior goes it would have to be dark for me or my deputy dog would ruin it.

I had a 2.0 V6 a couple of years back, here's a pic of it in "pipe and slippers gold" :p :-

Drove fine and did the job. The 2.0 is a tad underpowered and the handling isn't the best. Nice inside though, if you like that sort of thing.

I know what you mean. I had a 3.0 X-Type a few years ago, and it was a really nice car, if a little thirsty. I'm now starting to think about what I'll have when I get fed up of the current S-Type. When I do change, my "premium" car will be a second car, so I wanted something cheaper to do the daily commute in. I did consider going back to an X-Type, but it would indeed feel like a downgrade. Having said that, most daily drivers will feel like a downgrade... :(

You could kill 2 birds with one stone and get a diesel XJ.

Would be the logical step.

My dad gets about 800 miles out of his 2.7 litre diesel jag xj - manages a 45mpg comfortably and nearly up to 50mpg sometimes. :)

Just check out the top gear episode when clarkson drove it. :p

...well an S-Type was a downgrade from an XKR and an X-Type is a downgrade from an S-Type, so that's probably why it feels like that :p

You're going backwards! Most people progress in the other direction :p

Seriously though looks ok for the money and you clearly have a thing for jags :)

Yeah, I've already started looking at that option. It does indeed make sense.

Or indeed an S-Type 2.7D. WrathOfAchilles, what did you think of yours?

Get the XJ diesel not the S type, different gravy all together.

The V6 twin turbo 2.7D was good, didnt feel "slow". Was great on motorway and town alike. I had the auto box. On a motorwat run at "motorway speeds" i would get about 37 mpg, average about 33.

Not sure what the D lump in the XJ is?
