Currently running a E5200 @3ghz
8800GT 512mb
4GB DDR2 ram.

In fairness it runs most games fine and even the top games it's not a slideshow just lower than 20fps so hard to play properly and enjoy.

I want to upgrade my pc to play all agmes maxed out at 1920X1080 so what are the options? As cheap as possible i'd ideally like to keep the motherboard and ram I doubt i'd need more than 4GB of ram for anything except photoshopping which I don't do. Thank you.

Easiest and cheapest route would be to pick up a Q6600 cheaply if you can, and then stick in a new GPU like a GTX460 / HD5850.

No budget as such I just want to be able to play all games with the least spent as possible, not sure what my power supply is but it's more than powerful for anything (one of the Be Quiet! powersupplies). My pc spec is listed in the OP.

Look for a second hand Q6600 or a Q9XXX (the latter will be more expensive but is faster and can clock higher).

Then pickup a GTX460 1GB graphics card.

Job done.

To max out the GFX settings on 99% of games I would suggest a new

2500K CPU with any decent Sandybridge motherboard, 4GB of Geil RAM, and a 6850.

Guess I may have to get one of these new things. Right so the geil ram that cpu and a HD6850. Which motherboard? I don't need it to be amazing but want to overclock and have the usual features.

You just needlessly got conned into spending around £500-600 pounds when you needed to spend around £200 max.

Gratz :p

If you're serious about SandyBridge then this is probs the bset bet for minimum price:

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Lost Planet 2 PC Game - Retail £188.99
(£157.49) £188.99

HIS ATI Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE CODMW2 Game £139.99
(£116.66) £139.99

Foxconn P67A-S Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) £99.98
(£83.32) £99.98

GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel (GVP34GB1600C9DC) £41.99
(£34.99) £41.99

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £26.53
(£22.11) £26.53

Sub Total : £414.57
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.50
VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £84.81

Motherboard will overclock well, and let you get symmetrical (well, 8x8x) Crossfire when you feel your PC begin to get a bit slow.

You don't need a Core i5 2500K to run modern games at higher settings. Sounds more like e-peen TBH.

Why spend £200 to £250 when you can spend £500!

A Core2 quad and an HD6850 or a HD5850 will be fine.

It is most likely the 8800GT which is the limiting factor especially as it only has 512MB of VRAM.

As I said.

Ace, are OcUK down on profits this year/last quarter or something? Never seen mods try and convince someone to spend more than they need :confsued:

why spend money on core2quad? You can get a sandybridge setup that's much faster for not much more. It'll help with bad console ports and the cpu limited games.

ps. sorry didn't see OP had existing set up. Just purchase a 460/6850 then and a second hand q6600 should be like £70 or thereabouts. Though tbh can't really max out everything with the 460/6850 (crysis/metro)
