Just a question I was thinking of today at work.

Why do airlines charge less for children? is it because they weigh less than an adult ? if that is the case, then overweight people on airlines dont get chaged any extra?

just curious as to the reason why.
Pointless I know, but some knowledge sometimes ponders on pointlessness.

I'm guessing because kids tend to travel with adults so there's an implied multiple purchase discount, and concessions for kids are commonplace everywhere now- it's just a thing that companies do, so airlines follow suit.

Also, hi fellow Derbyshire forumer :)

Because most people won't pay full price for a child, I imagine. A kid weighing 40kg less means very little when the plane itself is 60,000kg+

Hi Hybrid, Im in the land of crooked spires!

Thanks for your replies, i thought it would be on the lines of concession as children tend to normally go with full paying adults.
