How to eat 200g of protein a day?

Ste59w home made shakes are great, but it depends what you are putting in them of course. I always find they can cost quite a lot as all the ingredients blend down to a lot less than in solid form (if price is an issue). I sometimes make a peanut butter one for post workout, but it is super calorific.

Those that say nuts are expensive, check out the cake making supplies isle. They are all unsalted and you can buy smashed up ones. Good for throwing into some yoghurt with whatever else you fancy. Whole cashews for example are roughly £1.30 for a 200g bag.

I'm so doing this for my 'cheat' meal this weekend :)

Reminds me back in my primary/secondary school days, i'd get home, get two slices of white bread, coat both slices in butter, lob fish fingers or burgers onto it [obviously cooked and sometimes bacon and egg with the burgers] and enjoy.

Just made a basic salad containing a tin of salmon, a lot of lettuce and salsa to give it some kick.

Together with the scrambled eggs whites this morning, that's probably my protein for the day bar a protein shake later. :p

No way I could eat 200g of protein without forcing myself.

I wish I could afford "lots and lots" of steaks.

Get lean mince then. Almost as much protein as a steak, but at about a quarter of the price.

I love my extra lean mince, cook it up with some herbs and spices then add a dash of nandos garlic peri peri sauce in at the end yum. I could happily eat boxes of the stuff.

Don't forget turkey and chicken and fish! Though fish can be expensive, but so so good. Heck turkey steaks can be had for around £10 for 1.5kg!

Also I've built up a great relationship with my butcher, and he does bulk buys for me for chicken and often a lot of "left over" meat that doesn't get sold and minces it for me - shove it in the freezer.

You have to plan, you have to innovate and you have to invent recipes etc... but it is possible without breaking the bank. :)

I get my protein from Sainsburys, i spend like £200 per month on food for myself, £50 per week. Protein is rather cheap too;

4 Turkey Breasts: £4.
4 Chicken Steaks: £5.
Lamb Mince 500g: £3.
4 Cans of Tuna in Water: £5 odd.
4 Smoked Salmon Steaks: £5.
4 Beef Steaks: £5 odd.

It's not expensive at all tbh.

Lots and lots of steaks :)

Tasty!

omnomnom, have gone for tesco's finest pork medallions this week, 6 in a pack, 3 packs for £9
3 medallions makes 30g's of protein, that's 6 evening meals covered this week protein wise :D

Cooking up mince and sticking in a beef stock oxo cube is honestly one awesome too!

Why can't protein come from rice/pasta/potatoe, would be SO much cheaper lol

So far today

Banana
Protein shake
Muesli
2 x wholemeal bread with peanut butter
Bowl of wholegrain rice, lentils and kidney beans

However, the rice has more or less finished me off. Looks like today's gym session will have to be deferred to tomorrow! I'm still adjusting to this plan.

Can easily be done, and easily be done on a budget (without loads of shakes).
If you can eat eggs, peanut butter, bread, oats, chicken, potatoes, nuts etc you are good.
However, if you easily get bored of the same meals, then that's where you need to plan more and become more creative :)
I love cooking up a feast!

If youve got the freezer space and some cash I can recommend these guys http://www.westingourmet.co.uk/ if you dont have a friendly local butcher. The chickens top quality I stocked up the other week.

that place is expensive, costco, makro, booker, etc are all much cheaper, in my experience, but i usually order through my restaurant.

the best option is to speak to the actual butcher by phoning them up, not one of his lackies. and tell him you want to buy in bulk, he should give you a good deal, if not try somewhere else.

the name gourmet should give it away, anything gourmet is expensive.

I don't find £4.95/kg that expensive especially when it turns up at my house ready to go, whereas using a cash and carry/wholesaler I would have to take the time to get a membership, then get someone to drive me to the nearest one which is about 20mins away etc.
I don't mind paying marginally extra for that bit of convenience.

FF, if you don't mind me asking how much roughly do you spend a week on food.

Sorry if a little personal it's just one of the reasons I take shakes is to cut down on costs :).

Am I alone here in that when I go shopping I'm always looking at £ per Kg?

I've always found asda/tesco/sainsburys/morrisons a tad expensive for their chicken and turkey, netto usually do £5/Kg which is about 50% cheaper than the other supermarkets.
