I use the good old Henry Hoover for a darn good vacuuming :) lol

LOL, l know a nurse who's seen people like you come into the Emergency Ward, carrying your Henry as its got stuck with your mack on, they nick named it Vacuumdustets Desease. ;)

Good laugh though

  • Have all fans set to exhaust and make sure they are running flat out.
  • Seal up any joins/vents with gaffer tape.
  • Place case in plastic bag and seal it well.
  • Find a way of switching it on, stand back and admire your handiwork.
  • Then post pictures.

tbh i have been looking for some decent filtering to add to my newly bought HAF 922, i came across some nice looking magnetic filtering but cost was approx £9 each for a 6" x 6"
filter, i also found some ideal filtering sheets that u can cut to size,

Peel-and-Stick Computer Air Filter Pack 3 sheets per pack for the 6" squares or 10 sheets per pack for the 6" x 12" packs - the price is very cheap tbh for the filters, I was going to buy 10 packs to save shipping fees as they are from the states or somewhere, I never did though, i would have loved them as they were easy to fit from been peel an stick etc I can't express enough the idealness of the item,
you can buy single packs or bundles of packs to save a little bit of cash, however, this is the infuriating part...
even when buying the bundle package to get more than 1 pack they get shipped seperately aparently, i reached the checkout after selecting to buy 2 bundle packs of 5 packs per bundle totaling $65 only to find they had added approx $90 in shipping fees, I couldn't believe it, especially as u could fit the whole 10 packs into 1 or 2 A4 size envelopes and put through the letterbox... LOL...

I did email them expressing how infuriated i was for the great insult and did mention i'd give them time to appaulogise etc and reduce the shipping fees for such items before i started flaming on the forums and websites i frequent naming the company... So i'll not give the company name just yet, in a couple of days if i've not had a response i'll let you know the company name.

other than that item/company i did research something about a complete cover for the chassis, It's a complete dust filter that stays on 24/7 while the computer is on or off.
It did seem a little appealing but i'd much prefer going for the first item i talked of but without buying from a company that wants to mail a letter sized package in 10 chassis sized boxes.... lol that still makes me laugh...

So i just finished cleaning the computer after mounting a new CPU cooler and since the motherboard was coming out i felt like i might as well.
I cleaned it almost 100% (apart from the areas i couldn't reach)

Fan blade by fan blade....everything.

I have an Antec 1200 so im lucky with the filters keeping a hold on the dust, but i would like to know everyone elses methods of Reducing Dust in the house.

So please, share your methods of keeping dust levels down.

And i don't just mean case modifications, i mean anything. (I've read about air purifiers and will possibly purchase one soon!)

Thanks,
Ox

A clean, tidy room. Also keep a duster in my draw to dust off my desk, screen stand and top/front of PC.

And compressed air.

Well, I wear a woolly sweater, and once in a while I rub it up against a scratchy blanked to create lots of static and then jam it into my computer case - all the dust just flies off the motherboard and straight onto the sweater, which then goes straight in the wash!

No, I'm kidding DO NOT DO THIS!!! :p I use the electric pump for an air mattress to dust it actually, with cue tips to take out persistent tufts of dust stuck in between heatsink fins.

The below would prob be another possibility, if you wanted to build a pc in a fishtank and fill it with mineral oil.

i did get a response back from the company that supplies the Peel-and-Stick Computer Air Filter Pack 3 sheets of 6" x 6" or the Peel-and-Stick Computer Air Filter Pack 3 sheets of 6" x 12"
here's the deal...

The item i was going to purchase was the 6"x6" pack mutiplied by 10 and u get deals for cheaper packs,
1 x 3 Pack = $7.95
3 x 3 Pack = $20.95
5 x 3 Pack = $32.95
I input 10 packs to the website checkout and it tried charging me $7 shipping on each of the packs making it a $70 shipping bill, however, after inquiring the guy told me that if i had ordered the 2 deals making up 10 individual packs they would have been mailed in 2 packages....

So apparently the company does accomodate in having less shipping involved.... but this didn't really put my mind at ease... i think it could be the fact that the website still tried to bill me for 10 shipping fees when ordering only 2 items...

Maybe the guy thought i was concerned about the poor mail man carrying 10 packages for me rather than 1 or 2.

anyhow... the website you'll be able to find these items on is www.DustX.net
but i'll for warn you, if you want more than 1 item purchasing even if it's just more of the same item i would email them first enquiring on how to make an order that doesn't involve their website

I keep my rig near a window at the moment to abuse the cold winter, I find dust isn't really a massive problem the room gets cleaned daily and I don't use any air filters. I always vacuum and blow. Cans of air have always been a waste of time for me.

Best way to battle dust is give it a quick 10 minute clean out every month then it doesn't get heavy with dust and easier to clean out.

i think submerging the rig in oil is by far the ultimate answer to dusty enviorements tbh, altho, i heard the coolent actually gets too warm after a long period of heavy usage.

that been said i still want a submerged rig :D they r super quiet and SOO CLEAN

I find if you have a hard floor e.g tiles, laminate etc then dust accumulates quickly and swirls around. With carpets or rugs, their may technically be more dust in the room, but if it is stuck on the carpet it doesn't go anywhere.
