Has anyone worked out how to turn the really annoying and pointless beep you get when you go into a main option on the MSI bios ? I did, unplug speakers :(

Turn speakers down!

Have managed to set the boot screen from the USB, but when you take the USB out it defaults to the MSI logo

Anyone ordering the Asus and using a third party CPU fan make sure it's a 4 pin PWM fan and not the usual 3 pin since Asus board are unable to control them. They will run (I think around half speed) but won't change with temps which is annoying with the noise when it's not being pushed and then also with it not cooling the system when pushing it.

C64 pointed me to this cable

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-031-AK

but i had already ordered Apache fans by that point which are 4 pin PWM fans.

This might be an issue on other boards as well, probably worth viewing the manufacturers website and downloading the motherboard manual to see if your board can control 3 pin fans.

One of those small but annoying things! :)

I am getting the Asus Pro and a Thermalright Silver Arrow cooler. The cooler fans are 3 pin but I'm getting a PWM Y cable to attach them both to the cpu fan header.

DO you think this would work and enable the board to control them?

He loved it and I will definitely go for the UD7 if the EVGA turns out to be no big deal. New to me after watching that video is the ability to run the cpu in an overclocked state statically without any frequency fluctuations. Watch from 10 mins in on the video. This is very appealing and he also mentions how overclocking is ridiculously easy.

I'm so confused.

I was looking to get an Asus board but people have had problems with them.

This is my first time building a computer & I need a good value motherboard that can be stable when overclocked to 4.5Ghz with my i5 2500k.

Any other boards to get or are Asus boards ok now?

I really can't be dealing with an un-stable motherboard with my first build!

Dont be scared by problems that some people are having as these are a minority. The Asus boards are no more unreliable than the others on offer (MSI GD65, GIgabyte UD4).

a lot of issues are too do with people putting too much volts through their CPUs/mobo, we have plenty of help threads around and a dedicated Sandybridge overclocking thread.

4.5GHz is very acheivable and won't stress the CPU too much, so you should be ok :)

Ah right, well I'm not experienced with OC, it's just for future use if I decide to bump it up.

There are a lot of different Asus motherboards on sale now, with my budget I've narrowed it down to these boards, which one would be best?

Asus P8P67-M, Intel P67 Express, 1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 2133/2200, SATA 6Gb/s RAID, MATX

Asus P8P67 LE, Intel P67 Express, S 1155, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 2200(OC), SATA 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, MicroATX

Asus P8P67-M PRO, Intel P67 Express, 1155, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 2200/2133, SATA6GB/s RAID, MATX

The problems most people are having not just some people with Asus board there own forums recognise this. Please dont buy one like I did P8P67 worst board I have ever owned and I have owned about 50-60 of different make over the years. It cant deal with memory at the moment the bios updates also suck. I am using Corsair Vengeance 2@4 gb DDR3 and they are in perfect working order.
I voted Gigabyte as I sadly had to get one after my Asus got Returned after 3 days of being useless

I am rejecting the Gigabyte board because it doesn't have a UEFI BIOS.

The decision is therefore between the Asus board and the MSI board.

The Asus board has a built in bluetooth module, better looking heatsinks, a better Intel Lan controller and a better UEFI interface. However it won't control any case fans and there are plenty of people with teething trouble with the board.

The MSI board is not as good looking as the Asus board and has an inferior Realtek LAN controller. It lacks bluetooth and the BIOS isn't quite as impressive looking as that on the Asus. However it allows control of two chassis fans, it has motherboard mounted power, OC and reset buttons and has a clear CMOS button on the back plate. It also seems so far to be more reliable..

I am therefore leaning towards the MSI.

I changed from the Asus to the MSI GD65, reason one because it works out a great deal with the 20% vat rebate. Plus they seem to be more reliable at this point in time.

I think you made the right choice as the asus does have lots of problems at the moment. Thats the one im going for now i have sent my asus pro back.

I want the Asus board but I am still really nervous about it - you say there have been 3 times as many sold as MSI but it seems there are many more than 3 times the issues and problems being reported as the MSI. It seems almost without exception everyone has at least the double-boot issue.

I want to click buy but I'm worried about a whole world of pain. Are you really sure there is nothing wrong with the Asus?

O.C will back you up but if it does end up being a nightmare then you have the problem of returning stuff but if all goes well then you will have a great overclockeing board.
