Next best thing to an iPhone

There is no android phone that offers awesome build quality plus great battery life except maybe the original desire. My suggestion would be be a W7 Omnia 7 which offers great build quality and good battery life only bad side is W7 is missing some basic features right now that should be fixed soon and not as much choice in apps.

The Build quality of my DHD is fantastic, and I'm not going to complain at a day of battery with heavy use....

My free Samsung Galaxy S costs me £12.50 a month for unlimited texts, 500 meg of data and 200 minutes, 1/3rd of the price of an iPhone and probably on par!

The battery life on any smartphone isn't going to be great, I don't understand why people are caught up on it.

Android isn't without it's issues either, a 2nd hand 3GS may be the way forward...

3GS on the newer iOS versions has issues, wouldn't recommend it tbh. There are better phones available now.

I guess there is no smartphone that is issue free then! :D Do you know what issues the 3GS has with newer iOS versions as I may hold updating mine to 4.3 if it causes more problems than it solves...

I'm on 4.0.1 and haven't had any issues :)

Don't see any real benefit in going from 3GS to 4 atm.

Since when did the iphone have great build quality, I thought they were one of the worst reliable phones statistically? If not the worst pretty bad?

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, just what I remember hearing in general and from word of mouth.

LOL at posting "Next best thing to an iPhone" in the Android forum. You got bottle kiddo. ;)

Anyhow, if you're set on an iPhone, then you're looking at a used 3GS at your budget. If not, then there's a plethora of Android devices to choose from.

Not sure about Win7 at this budget though.

I dont think you should keep calling it that, Windows 7 phone and the iPhone both get a fair representation in here most of the time.

Also, its sort of been forced to be the Android/W7 forum due to the bizarre system this forum uses that stops the iPhone being classed as a mobile phone

You must understand that this being an overclocking forum for computer hardware enthusiasts the phones suggested are going to come from a more 'geek' angle which is where the high end Android market delivers in spades and the iPhone doesn't (I understand that won't apply to everyone but in my experience it would apply to the majority).

Windows 7 has made barely a chink in the armour and any mention of iPhone brings out the usual cliches.

I'm just calling a spade a spade Robbo mate. It's a shame really as if you post in the Apple forum you get recommended an iPhone, post here you get recommended a Desire/SGS. It's too late to move Iphone talk back down here though, should never have been moved in the first place.

Anyhow, I digress. There's a time and place to discuss this and this thread isn't it. :)

I thought the same actually, which is why I swapped my 3GS as my main phone for an HTC Desire last year - I wanted something better. :)

Anyway, with a 3GS you'll still be on contract won't you unless you bought a PAYG one?

I'm about due a new phone (this Desire has been one of the longest phones I've used for years!) but I think I'll wait until the dual core Android stuff comes out, or maybe see when a new iPhone is out I'll see if they've caught up again. Not sure I could go back to that world of being ring fenced in though.

I'm still on contract, yeah. I'm not interested in a downgrade so will only go Windows mobile or newer iPhone but I don't see any big strides forward yet.

cos it's annoying, my e72 used to last 4-5 days without having to charge it. People are more worried about dual cores than decent battery longevity:confused::confused::confused:

just got a san francisco and the battery life is so bad:p having to charge it daily is annoying.

If you want a full 4-5 days of web browsing/gaming/sat naving/movie watching on a hi-res 3.5"+ screen then you'll be waiting a long, long time ;)

Get a spare battery for peace of mind.

Owned lots and the I4 is probs the best about and with its high rez screen looks really good but is way over priced.

Android would be Galaxy S or Desire HD had both and I would personally take the Galaxy S over it again for the main reason the 4.3" screen made the DHD to big and I think 4" is the sweet spot and the S AMOLED screen looks amazing.

I have a Omnia 7 now which I have had for a few months and loving it, wouldn't change it yet as nothing the others have would want me to go back, super fast and smooth and a lovely screen does everything I want.
