Geforce GTX 260 192 core Graphics Card

They're OK, but the 192 core is the older version of the GTX 260.

I wouldn't specifically go and buy one unless it was cheap (£40?) but it should be able to play all new games on a reasonable setting/resolution as long as the rest of the system is decent enough.

Nvidia 7200GS, if that's your current card the 260 will blow it away in performance, 260 is still a powerful card and will play all games fine, but you will have turn down IQ settings in the most demanding games.

my last setup had a 9800GT which i replaced for 2xHD5770 in xfire, so would it be anywhere near the 9800GT standard? would the rest of my system bottleneck a decent card?

my mobo is cheap, dont think cpu is running as it should

'Supports next generation of 45nm AMD AM3 CPU
This motherboard designs with Split Power Plane, 3+1 phase VRM to support AMD the latest 45nm AM3 Phenom™II series processors, delivering the great performance enchantment to system and ultimate scalability hardware expending.
* If you install AMD AM3 on this motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0 (5200MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM3 CPU will not be impacted. Please refer "CPU Support List" for more information. '

Yeah you will be taking a perfmance hit, even so I would get the 260 if it's cheap and if you are being held back badly by the CPU just bag a cheap AM2+ board.

how bad a hit performance wise is the mobo causing? i dont fully understand the comment from gigabyte.
also, how big are these cards, i know my old 9800GT wouldnt fit in my first case so had to replace it. now have a gigabyte GZ-X1 case, not really paid any attention to the inside, so dunno if something like a 9800GT would fit.

After doing a bit more research on AMD boards the downgrading of the system bus will have minimal impact in gaming, in windows it's a similar performance hit going from dual channel DDR to single channel so no big deal.

As for size a reference 260 is 10.5 " long. It will fit in your case.

I Have the Newer version of the GTX 260 and i can play Any Game i own full Settings with atleast 40+ FPS. at 1920x1080.

WoW = 40Fps when busy. (Orgimmar Town Center) 60FPS(Capped) Everywhere else. Max Settings 4x AA.
L4D2 = 60FPS(Capped) 16x AA 16X AF Max Settings.
CoD4 = 60FPS(Capped) Max Settings.

Definately a step up from a 7200GS.

yeh i know compaired to the 7200GS anything will be good, but being an older card, is it worth it. 40FPS isnt exactly amazing, and (never played WoW so dunno how GPU intense it is) are any of those games really that taxing?
i know my 9800GT struggled to play Fifa2010 on anything higher than low-mid settings on my i7 build, my single HD5770 played most things ok on mid-high, and when i had 2xHD5770 then obvs it was even better, although struggled on some games on full.

I'm still running a GTX275 and GTX260 in my two machines and they handle most stuff very well, with maybe some settings turned down here and there. Even the GTX460, which was universally praised when it was released, isn't actually that much faster than these cards.

Considering they go for around £60-70, these cards have to be the ultimate used bargain right now.

how do they compare to the HD5770? as these are only £70-£90 new from some places.
5770 is about on par with the GTX260 give or take, but with dx11 (not that it is fast enough for demanding dx11 titles without turning some settings down if at res 1920).

Depend of the price of the GTX260 192...if it's more than £50, I would rather try finding a 2nd hand GTX260 216 or 5770 at around £60 instead.

the GTX260 i have found is now over the price i was willing to pay. my knowledge of Nvidia is limited, what are the best cards to look out for second hand, sub £60?
