Should have got a 500gb Seagate hybrid imo, the 128_B SSDs just aren't worth it.

Agreed they're still very expensive but I'd just had my Christmas bonus paid and was feeling saucy! It's lightning quick.

So does the laptop have problems with ssd's as my brother has had one and is thinking of getting a ssd for it.

Nah not with SSD's, just tell him to get a Vertex and not a C300.

I got one of the early ones with the WD Blue HDDs. I'm going to have to replace the HDD as to be honest, I think the stuttering in games is getting worse. It's not a major upgrade but it's pretty annoying that a laptop bought for gaming can't sensibly run games as is.

i need a 750gb hdd for this drive since i got the ones wth the blues in. i got an ssd already installed but ive looked arround and most 750gb are 12.5mm and im not usre if they would fit

Hi
I recently got this laptop (with Hitachis :D ) and since owning it I've had a bit of a problem. It makes a beeping noise at random but not frequently . It doesn't come from the speakers, but internally. The length of the beep is also variable, lasting from less than a second to a few seconds. Does anyone else have this problem? Should I be concerned?
Everything on the GX660R seems to be working fine though and I'm extremely happy with it!

hi
how do you watch movies on your tv with this. I have a xvid film I would like to watch on my tv. Its hd ready tv with different inputs, whats the best to do it.
thanks

I've had no problems with using the HDMI output with an LG 42" HD TV. I can even use my digital TV USB dongle for digital terrestrial TV on the laptop, and on the big screen it looks no different to the antenna input on the TV (it may seem mad so to use the laptop for TV, but the point is you can use the laptop for PVR, pause/record live TV).

I've successfully played back recordings from satellite too (including true 1080 HD content).

Incidentally the laptop manages to stream HD digital terrestial TV from the USB dongle with about 20% CPU usage when using software decoding. With hardware decoding (the ATI graphics) it's about 3% CPU.

Haven't checked CPU usage during recording (potentially useful to know, although I'm not sure how likely it would be you could use the laptop for gaming while recording live TV - seems unlikely it would work).

Recived mine yesterday, super service by ocuk as always! wouldnt go any where else came with the 5400rpm drives, lucky i bought some nice 7200 western digital black HDDS, easy plays CODMW2 on high full res everything turned up with out going under 60-70 fps.
Very happy indeed!

Im kinda gutted that i have put mine up for sale as it really is a beastie of a laptop. i just need to trim down and concentrate on other things. gonna miss it when it goes lol.

I was gutted when i sold my pc back in may last year! regretted it ever since so glad i bought this, very well built and the sound is amazing.

I got this laptop about a month ago and I'm loving it so far! I installed an SSD day one and it really makes an amazing difference to the performance of the laptop. However I was just wondering if upgrading the second drive to a 7200rpm HD would be worthwhile? Mine came with the Hitachi drives but now that the WD Scorpio Black 500GB are back in stock I would be tempted to upgrade. Has anyone else noticed much of an improvement in doing this?

Am now the proud owned of a GX660R :)

Can anyone provide a download to the latest graphics drivers? I'm using outdated ones on the MSI CD, and the amd website only shows downloads for the CCC, not the physical driver itself.

I've already tried installing what it in the download in the link above, it doesn't detect/install the 5870. The MSI ones are being used atm. Will the regular desktop drivers work?

Also, there is a lot of talk of installing SSD's, I have 2x 500gb's in raid 0, could i remove one of those and stick in an SSD drive via a straight swap with one of the existing 500gb drives? :) I'd be looking to do this!

Cheers,
Tommy

Thats where I get my video drivers from anyway if it helps!

With regards to installing the SSD I can say that I have done this and it was basically a case of whipping out one of the 500GB drives already installed and slotting in the ssd. I didn't run into any problems with installing a fresh copy of windows 7 and running the SSD in AHCI mode. Although I did come across some people having some issues with the latter in this thread.

Odd, i downloaded that same file, executed it, and the 5870M is not picked up at all :S I had fully uninstalled the previous drivers/CCC and rebooted, then executed the download.

Any ideas anyone?
