HTC Desire HD (Ace)

ran in too a strange issue, got everything set up the way i want so i decided to make a fresh nandroid back-up, boot into recovery and run back-up and it starts the back-up, then it will try to back up the system and will show this message "can't mount /system/!" has any one else experienced this or know of a solution?

Heya

I had same a couple of days back, found out it's because the 2.x.x version of clockworkmod doesn't support gingerbread builds (can't read the ext4 partition)

I tried to upgrade to 3.0.0.5 of CWM but failed so still on old....

Will post back when I find a solution, I found it really useful having nandroid there as a fall back, luckily though the latest 2.3.1 build is pretty much perfect so will stick with it I think

As you say the 2.3.1 seems flawless, i still have my old stock back up so if anything goes mental i can restore to that but it would have been nice to have a back up for a little added security.

i for the life of me can not get the usb drivers installed or work out what im doing concerning the sdk so i cant begin to even try and install CWM3, id imagine when it reaches final release and GB roms are pretty much standard rom manager wil update CWM to v.3 itself?

I managed to get USB drivers working fine by installing SDK, then all the addons (in there is the USB drivers)

I flashed in a new recovery 3.0.0.5 image but phone wouldn't boot into it so went back to 2.x

Like you say it should appear soon in rom manager, I'll post up if I fix it as I miss the backup options

Ah, I didn't realize it required a hack for 2.3.1. I thought it would just be a normal update...Why must we root our phone for 2.3.1? Or will the update come naturally in the future?

you need root to flash clockwork mod which is what you need to flash custom roms, you will get 2.3 from htc but i thought the phone was a bit of a slug with htc's stock rom on, not sure if it will be the same with there stock 2.3 rom on.

I don't think we'll see one from UK carriers this year... and when you do it will be Sense UI on top which you won't be able to get rid of

Are there any apps that can break down the battery usage further than the stock listing does?

-edit-
It's now up to around 10% per hour. Could running Tasker (with nothing intensive, just some gyro stuff when in a call, so it should be idling), or having all three of Launcher Pro, Zeam & HTC Sense on the go, cause such drain?

Found the culprit. It was "Go Weather", since removing this my battery usage has gone back to previous 1%/hour when on wifi :D

got this phone a couple of days ago...and its sweet! Ive become a fidget addict virtually overnight...but a complete noob with phones.
Can anyone recommend must have aps for this phone to improve it and its battery life maybe.
Also...whats this HTC sense thing...do i need to sign up to it?

for the fidget addiction get a comfy arm chair, all ways a good start ;)

as for sensui, its the skin on top of stock android, sort of along the lines of the launchers on the market, its a little more in depth i think with its own tasks running in the background and no, its as standard on htc phones and your using as we type.
my preference was to get rid of sense and use a stock rom loading a launcher on top, phone feels smoother to me but it isnt a must.

as for apps, theres a massive must have thread on android apps, im just starting to find mine, had my phone a week so its just down to what you want from the phone.

regards to battery life, ive found knocking the brightness down a couple notch's makes a massive differance, i use a widget called switcher pro to manage brightness profiles form the desktop. carefull you may become a widget addict though but it could take your mind of the fidget problem :D

Cheers. Im quite happy with how it works as standard really..however If there is a big diffenece in performance it might be worth using a different rom..what version have you been using?
I installed launcher pro last night..thats was my first big change to the stock system...so im advancing :)

anyone know if you can download maps to the phone memory...so you have then there all the time even if you arent connect to a network? mine seems to be loading maps as I move. Ive been using the stock installed maps and navigation programs. Cheers
