Virgin Media 20Mb Cable customers Free upgrade to a new 30Mb Tier

why are they doing this when they still havent upgraded all 50mb customers to 5mb upload?

50mb customers should have priority over lower levels and 100mb over 50mb.

so theres people out there on 30mb now with 3mb upload and im on 50mb with 1.5mb upload, thats ridiculous. i hope 50mb customers get a free upgrade to 75mb soon.

No chance of that and its area based so some areas will get it sooner here is the update schedule for all things I can find, don't take them exact though as some users have said there area has been done and on the list says months away, just use it as a guide.

My upload speed was upgraded a few weeks ago even though it says August on that PDF.

I was tempted to go for the 50mb service but if they are really upgrading us 20mb users to 30mb I'd be happy.

Does anyone know if the 30mb service will be on the DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 network? I think the 50mb is the only service on the 3.0 network at the moment?

I thought all 20meg connections had been moved over too the new system and so 20/50 used it so I would imagine 30 would be on it if so.

Its area by area so depends when you are in line for the upgrade, according to the pdf document mine isn't until July before I get 5mb up.

Hooray!

So my 20MB/768KB becomes 30MB/3MB soon :D

I believe it will be 30/1 until the upload increases hit your area. 30 upgrade is due 1st feb.

Hmm, was thinking of moving over to their 20Mb service anyway, this would be a huge incentive. Is this going to be a perminant replacement to the 20Mb service, or does it just apply to all customers currently on the 20Mb, while any that join after the upgrade still get 20Mb?

They do, my parents have 10mbit. Although if they gave all 10mb customers a free upgrade to 20 then they could claim to be faster than all their rivals! I think it would be a smart strategy in the Virgin v Sky battle.

All customers have been migrated to 20meg already from 10meg, i suggest that if your parents aren't getting this they give them a call. As part of any of the new packages they would be upgraded automatically to the 20meg. The prices for 10meg and 20meg have been aligned so they should be getting the 20meg as standard.

50 meg is still currently running on a different docsis platform, therefore still benefits from having no traffic management on downloading... they are currently upgrading all cabinets across the UK which will eventually mean the docsis platforms and broadband split between them will be upgraded in line with this.

10Mb is still a package & they haven't given out any upgrades to 20Mb like they are doing with 20-30Mb.

They dropped the 2Mb package & put everyone on that to 10Mb.
