A build for Shogun 2! Any advice?

google coolermaster megaflow 200mm £13 or check members market but i dont think u have access yet as i am selling two new red 200mm :) im changing the color to blue to match the motherboard.the msi card has a blue sticker as does my psu so it made sense :D

it comes with 1x 200mm front and 1x 120mm rear.i opted to grab 1more 200mm for the top and buy 2x 120mm apache blacks for the rear and sides.the side slot will take 140mm if you wish but apaches are pre braided which i wanted.i aint gonna color code my rig and have yellow wires running through it :)

i also reccomend finding a side dust filter, i choose a company called demcflex who do amazing looking medical grade mesh filters, google demcflex for thier website and they come in both white and black mesh.the black looks amazing just remember to order one size bigger than whatever size of fan you choose to mount in that side 120/140mm slot.my reasoning is if using rubber mounts the rubber heads sits out slighty so clearance will give the mesh a little give of a few mm

another upgrade you might want is nexus dampers case feet which u can find via google for around £9.the feet on these cases are all plastic which is bad if its going to sit on a desk.

thats what my case + upgrades to it consisted of and it came to around £125 ish and will kick the ass off the HAF X with all the stock fans and filters and still cost £15 less.

Maybe some would say itsa little bit silly, but the way I see it, by the time your spending so much money and looking at the top end gpu, get the 2600k SB.

Also dont skimp on the cpu cooler. It will pay for its self when it allows overclocks up to 4.5Ghz +

I would get the 2600k cpu and a 570 or 6970 (6950 if your comfortable risking a flash) - simply becuase:

A a 570 or a 6970 will give you ample performance already

B If you need more you can always go xfire or SLI

Haha you had to pop in and put that in my mind didt you! ;)

Would there be any benefit for mainly just gaming to go i72600k instead of i5 2500k?

Am thinking id see no major FPS increase plus it would kill a lot of my budget.

if he takes the bundle he gets a excellent cooler and u echo my thoughts on the 2600k.from benchmarks though there is no difference and hyperthreading can cause niggles and stutters sometimes.the only 2600k gain i saw was it will do 4800mhz if v lucky and the other will do 4600mhz if lucky.overclocking wise they seem to come within 100-200mhz of each other.

i may still toss this up in a week or two when i order but its putting me £70 over budget for hardly any gains and as a smoothness freak who wont risk sli due to these reasons the 2500k is jumping off the screen saying buy me buy me.this is why i had to pay a premium for a 580 as im sick of having stuttering in certain games at 60fps.

yes l4d2 im pointing at you

To be honest that seems a lot of work :p

Perhaps il continue my case search for somthing which includes dust filters.

This is probably true. In terms of gaming, you probably wont see a difference.

However which ever chip you get, get a decent cooler, so you can clock the cpu, as it seems SB (k series) are built for overclocking.

ok the 912 plus does have filters it just has no side 120mm filter. the haf x is the same, it has a side filter but has no psu filter where as the 912 does have one psu filter but no side filter :P.the haf x has extraction filters too where as the 912 plus does not and as you know extraction cannot suck in dust so they are not worth talking about but i did just to make sure you understand the difference between the filters.

it would cost more to get the custom psu filter than the normal side 140mm as the psu filter has a really funny little shape.

I dont mean to poop on your parade, but this is why I am genuinly looking forward to see what Bulldozer turns out to be.

No need to make a choice over a chip with or with out hyperthreading.

AMD (at least in terms of marketing), go down the true core route. Rather than hyperthreading.

I know they also implement hyperthreading.....

Ok cheers. One more question the only difference i can see between the MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 and the MSI P67A-GD55 Intel P67 is SLI support.

As i def wont be SLI'n i imagine i should get the cheaper?

I will still consider the overclocked bundles though.

it will be a beast at max settings, have you seen that nighttime battle with the roaming fog? shadows+fog will make most cards cry i think.im confident my 580 will net me a good 40fps minimum on max settings.

Shogun is out in march though. Is there a ETA on Bulldozer? I couldnt wait till end of year.

not sure seek advice elsewhere.they are cheaper and will have worse sata throughput i think for an SSD.

overclocking might be better on the GD65 but i still would take the asus 2500k 4gb bundle from OCUK over a seperates with a C45.

C45 is not something i would even glance at to be honest.i may be wrong though.

yes i have drooled over them many many times.and the quote button finally works again for me thank god! :)

when the time comes i look foward to meeting you all online for some games.i just hope you dont archer camp i swear to god please do not archer camp! :D

ps the hero units look cool, i had a brainwave of hiding the anti cavalry hero unit among my weak cavalry and luring someone on and devastating them but i realised the arrow indicators will simply tell my opponent i have 2 units within my horses which i really hate about playing online.they need a hardcore mode with no banners, infact im gonna post over there asking for this right now!

Ok thanks. I wouldnt normally look at MSI mobos. Have always looked at Asus and Gigabyte but having read reviews online of the MSI P67A-GD55 Intel P67 it appears to be excellent.

Thanks for your help.

Honestly I got no idea, but from what I'v read of rumours around April ish..

However what ever you do, getting a 2500k a 2600k or a AMD B.D its still gona kick butt.

The one thing that SB may* have over BD is ease of overclocking.... its looks very easy to overclock SB....

I guess it matters if your a beginner overclocker or an enthusiast.

Am a complete novice. Thats why im leaning towards the MSI boards with there OC Genie. One button and im at 4Ghz which will do me fine.

After a good read and much thinking ive settled on the below.

GTX 580, Finally time to replace my 8800gtx.

Intel Core i5-2500K, the 2600k not worth the extra for gaming.

MSI P67A-GD55 Intel P67 Good reviews and will use OC genie to overclock to 4ghz if i need to.

G.Skill RipJawX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
I could just grab 4gb but if i change my mind later on id end up with 4 sticks instead of 2. That cant be very efficient.

Titan Fenrir Evo CPU Cooler (Love the look of it and seems good enough from reviews)

All thats left to decide on is the case. Currently looking at the NZXT Phantom Enthusiast Full Tower Case. Seems great and is a cheaper alternative to the Haf X.

Cant see any problems with the build

Thank you all for your help.

nice, put it in a haf 912 plus and ur sorted!

and you can get at least 4.4ghz with a little research, ask about it will takes 10 mins

gl with shogun 2
