Which one should i be looking at getting to go with my rig as seen in my signiture?

Want the best performer of the two

thanks

At lower resolutions such as 1680x1050 then the 570 is your best bet as its a few percent faster. At 1920x1080 the 570 is just a tiny bit faster, at 1920x1200 they are around the same and anything higher (2560x1600) the 6970 usually wins.

thanks, at the moment i have 1680x1050 but looking to go full 1080p in the following weeks, i like my games maxed out obviously ;) but still a little confused on what to go for, i am looking to order tomorrow guys so please let me know what you all think :/

cheers

I might be a bit biased but I think it's great value to get the 6950 and flash it to a 6970.

Saves £60-£70 and gives the same performance.

It's worth considering.

Performance seems to swing depending on the game....

It really isnt clear which is the better out of these two.

I would say choose one based on the games you play.

Which ever performs better get.

Both look like nice cards... personally if I had to choose I would go 570.

Simply becuase the 570 has better tesselation, and becuase I fancy a change!

Going by the heaven bench the 6970 has better tessellation performance than the 570.

Generally speaking, if you do not overclock they are both very similar with one winning half of the benchmarks and the other winning half also.

If you intend to overclock get the 570 because it has MUCH more headroom than the 6970. A GTX570 can easily be overclocked past GTX580 performance but the 6970 cannot.

570 can overclock past 580 on stock voltages or have there been results of 6970's with higher than stock voltages yet?

definately not going for the 6950 after recent finding outs of warrenty being void and problems such as bricking or something once flashed?

yes its not an instant bricking thing but it develops relatively fast....

games i currently play include:

Dirt 2 which i want to play max and smooth so badly lol
Crysis 1, warhead and 2 when its released!!!!
Call of duty (not demanding i know)
Battlefield bad company 2 and vietnam soon

and whatever else is in the pipeline for the future :P

cheers guys really appreciate this

I own 580's, but from what I have read most 570's (stock speed 732MHz) will hit 830-850MHz (GTX580 akin performance) on stock volts and 900-930MHz with additional volts. That is a 16%-27% overclock. The typical overclock for a 6970 is 950MHz (up from a default 880), with some people hitting as high as 980. That give 8%-11%.

I think it is fair to say that GTX570's overclock by twice as much as 6970's.

For a 6970 to rmatch GTX570 overclocking it will need to run at ~1117MHz. Please post screenies if anyone here has managed this on stock cooling and I will eat my words.

At resolutions above 1920x1200 the 6970's 2GB frame buffer will provide noticeably superior results within some VRAM intensive games, but up to this resolution both are pretty even when running stock speeds.

But then it depends what tessellation mode is used. I know most use the normal or moderate settings but on Extreme, the GTX570 is way ahead. Overally, I think the GTX570 is the better card and overclocks much further.

Voltage tweaked ASUS EAH6970: Stock and overclocked results versus a GTX580. I will have a GTX570 on there soon enough.

ok a possible problem... my PSU only has 6 pin power chords to go to the GPU i have at the moment... which card out of the two requires more than 2 six pin connectors?

thanks

actually, how long is it in comparison to a GTX 285 i already have?

converned about space lol

thanks

thanks guys, GTX 570 ordered and will be in the PC wednesday evening :)

will report back with a little review on the performance and comparison of the new to the old

cheers
