Ati 11.1a Hotfix coming today ;)

http://legitreviews.com/news/9866/

* 3DMark Vantage improves ~7%
* 3DMark06 improves ~3%
* Call of Duty Black Ops improves ~20% at 4xMSAA and up to 35% at 8xMSAA
* Riddick Assault on Dark Athena SSAO performance improves ~20%
* Unigine Heaven OpenGL performance improves ~10% at moderate, 30% at normal and 100% at extreme tessellation levels

That above is for 6900 series and 6800 series... but there is more specific improvements for both...

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series:
· Aliens vs. Predators improves ~9% at 2xMSAA and up to 20% at 4xMSAA
· Batman Arkham Asylum improves ~4%
· Crysis Warhead improves ~2-4%
· Metro 2033 improves ~28% at 4xMSAA

AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series:
· Battleforge DirectX 11 performance improves as much as 6%
· The Catalyst Control Center includes an early prototype of some new tessellation controls. Our goal is to give users full control over the tessellation levels used in applications. The default selection “AMD Optimized” setting allows AMD, on a per application basis, to set the best level of tessellation. The intention is to help users get the maximum visual benefit of Tessellation, while minimizing the impact on performance. Currently no applications have been profiled, so the “AMD Optimized” setting will be non-operational until further notice.
· The “Use Application Settings” option gives applications full control over the Tessellation level. Users can also manually set the maximum tessellation level used by applications with the slider control
· The long term goal for the “AMD Optimized” setting is to use the Catalyst Application Profile mechanism to control the AMD recommended level of tessellation on a per application basis. AMD’s intention is to set the tessellation level such that we will not be reducing image quality in any way that would negatively impact the gaming experience.

The WHQL driver will be with us on the 26th of Jan.

Here we go again, queue the debate folks;)

This is not a dig, but perhaps AMD should think long and hard about their once a month, every month driver release schedule. I'm sure the majority would prefer for them to take a little more time with QA and not have to rush out a constant stream of hotfixes shortly after each release.

As it stands, to the less clued up it could seem that AMD are constantly having to fix their drivers as they are always releasing hot 'fixes'.

This is a public beta so people can point out any issues to AMD on a vastly greater amount of set-ups which is part of QA & that there should be less bugs in the official.

NV also releases plenty of betas so stop moaning.

The hotfix 11.1a BETAS will be released tonight and later on, on the 26th the full WHQL driver will arrive.

I am personally going to try these ones out.

How do you get the impressions that I am moaning from the words I typed?

All I did was point out that releasing something called a hotfix so soon after the official drivers does AMD no favours in the eyes of those not as clued up as we are, and probably helps to propagate the myth that AMD have substandard drivers. Maybe going to a bi-monthly schedule would give the developers a bit more breathing room, as I'm sure the once a month every month pressure cooker does nobody any favours. Call them something else, beta or technology preview perhaps.

Edit: WHQL every two months with a hotfix/beta/whatever in between makes more sense to me.

I hope the 5000 series doesnt get left behind...

Historically AMD do leave previous generation behind after while....

In fairness they have to as given 100% tothe 6000 series and the 5000 series and all previous series is impossible, but my 5870 is only 6months old :(

He's not moaning, just making a valid point.

The 1 release every month is a bit pointless imho, as nearly every release is followed by some kind of fix, which makes you think it wasn't properly tested in the first place.

Plus, unfortunately, people tend to upgrade drivers whether they really need to or not, so less releases means possibly less problems = less forum threads about problems.

And greater internet bandwidth for everyone as its not being sucked up with people posting about problems :)

Even NV official drivers have bugs as well that are then addressed in multiple beta after until the next officials & because your an NV user & not an ATI user at present your not following because 11.1 are not out & 10.12 are the officials.

If games didn't come out every month & people didn't mind waiting longer for possible issue with games to be fixed then yes his point would be valid.

And its been explained many times why hot fixed come out right after an officials when a game is released after the driver has gone to MS for cert.

The 11.1a drivers have been delayed a week or so...
http://legitreviews.com/news/9872/

From Legit Reviews:

"I came in this morning and it seems as though our Driver Team had a few more last minute tweaks/changes which in turn delays the process for certification and testing and now the new date is firm for next week. The driver is a “release candidate” and we’re currently working on WHQL certification, the Driver Team is keeping me informed as to when it’ll go live. I’ve now been told that they’re working on a timeline to have it out by mid-next week, so most definitely either Wednesday 25th or Thursday 26th"
