Found out today that the game I've been working on for the last three years has pretty much been shelved... indefinitely. 17 people have been made redundant and the whole team is going onto some not so exciting projects.

*sigh*

The game was looking so good as well =(.

Stupid recession still hitting the games industry. Gah! Sorry. just needed to rant on somewhere that isn't Facebook.

I feel so bad for the people who have been made redundant; a lot of them were grads - their experience is going to be so tainted.

3 years? That's quite a long time to develop a game isn't it?

Do you think this could be one of the reasons why it was shelved?

It is a shame to put so much work into something only for it to not see the light of day, I'm sure it would have been nice to have a successful title on your CV also! :(

Yes, three years is longer than average (development was actually longer). Top level publisher problems was the reason; there is a very small glimmer of hope that they come back and want to sign it - but it's not very likely.

Not sure I should say what the game is just yet. Either way, gutted!

Sorry to hear it mate, several people I know have recently been let go in the industry. Glad our publisher bought us with the way things are going right now. I wouldn't say what the game is if your under NDA, your still working there?

What dev were you in? I'm in art.

See your in Cambridge, Frontier or Jagex?

Yup, I'm still here (luckily). It's all over my Facebook (obviously) what game it was, but posting it on here is a step too far just yet =P.

I'm at Frontier, a Designer. Where you at?

I turned a job down at Frontier in 2008. I'm at Travellers Tales Fusion, just announced our 3Ds games today.

I think it's the game I would have worked on, mainly washington enviros??!

Frontier Games? :(

They're making The Outsider first and then Elite 4 (although Elite 4 has been coming for a very long time and isn't listed any more).

I know what it is but if I was you I wouldn't post it if your still under NDA I guess. Our place crucifies people for breaking it :(

Well, you could post it and then he wouildn't have to?

Edit : Or is that going to get him done for giving away enough information to get close to it?
