I don't believe that for a minute.

I think it was cancelled for two reasons. Firstly it wouldn't be popular. Secondly it might be unpopular since games have a bad reputation.

wouldn't be popular ? for a start they still got voted in when these breaks where mentioned throughout the run up to the election. secondly this is a multibillion dollar industry , who cares if the odd anti games group doesn't like it ? wouldn't be the first slightly unpopular thing they have done

countries like canada are going about it better , they offer the games industry a tax break then with the money they save the games companies come over here and pick some of our best graduates up with the offers of visas and higher wages .

we are still in the lead but we wont be forever unless something is done about it

I don't expect that you would.

Can I ask who it wouldn't be popular with?

I thought the right understood that if you lower tax you encourage growth. In what was a potentially vibrant sector, this would be of a great advantage.

No they don't.

Wii's sit in millions of livingrooms.

You're straw clutching with your mirroring points.

Freeeeeeeeeedom

:p

Yup, I'm still here (luckily). It's all over my Facebook (obviously) what game it was, but posting it on here is a step too far just yet =P.

Sense does not make.

So it's all over your Facebook page where it is fact that boss's go looking for what employees get up to but you have a username that probably they don't know on a forum which they probably don't know you go on.
A friend of mine got sacked on Monday because of Facebook.

 If you don't understand then I can't explain. It won't be popular with headline writers. If you think games are popular in the public then you're living in a parallel world. Regardless of how many people play them, they're not considred favourably.

I'm just paranoid I guess. Why did he get sacked may I ask?

Sorry to hear about the project, at least you still have your job.

Surely this is a common job risk in the games industry though?

I guess he's not the one that has posted it directly, either way I wouldn't give them an excuse to dismiss if it was me.

I know of one other Major studio this week that looks like its about to be split.

Sorry to hear about the games industry here being in such a pickle.

Ever thought about moving to the glamorous film side of CG? Tax-breaks all round means its really booming here at the moment!

 If you don't understand then I can't explain.

Ahhh, so its me who doesn't understand?

No no, do keep trying to explain.

I want to hear the logic behind what is clearly a popular industry world wide.

It won't be popular with headline writers.

Irrelevent, there are more pressing issues.

Economic growth is more important to pandering to gutter press.

If you think games are popular in the public then you're living in a parallel world

:D

Whatever. :)

If you really really believe this is their reasoning - why lie about the promise in the first place?

You're maybe misunderstanding me on "popular". Lots of people play games, it's a multi-billion £ industry worldwide. However pandering to gutter press is far more important than economic growth, especially when the games industry will have a minor effect on the UK.

Yes it's right to give them tax cuts, but the papers would make an absolute meal of the government if they did. So they won't.

Computer games still get a bad press. That's just a fact.

Looking at the premise for the game it wasn't the wisest project to green light in the first place. I'm sad for you and your team though. I have been in the same situation a few times in the past myself.

I'd also refrain from going on about it too much on Facebook. It will do you no good to be associated with complaints about failed projects. It sounds petty, but that's how it is.

UK games industry needs the same tax breaks that have/were offered to film production in the UK.
