Is this desperate?

Why not just take it to a friends house "to get fixed" then upgrade it there. Maybe "break" it first for authenticity, turning the PC off at the power supply should do it, people who arent technically inclined would never figure that out.

Extra bonus if you can get said friend to buy the parts for you so it can be shipped to his you can then BACS transfer him the money for it.

So they can keep an eye on what sites you are lookin at? next will be a parental control time lock so you can only use betwen certain hours,,,

More along the lines of making sure I'm not gaming. Despite the fact I said I wouldn't be gaming around exams and haven't . . .

Site monitoring isn't an issue with me, I'm not that kind of chap - they don't approve of Sickipedia though, or watching youtube...

Would work, were I allowed to take PC to friends houses or LAN events.

Maybe they would let you take it if you did the "omg it wont turn on anymore" thing then argued you need it to study for exams. Also you have saved study work on it so it needs to be that PC you use.

Only thing is if they call a pc repair guy that would trash the plan. You know them best, would they call someone or let you take it so your friend can "fix" it for cheaper/free?

At the end of the day you're obviously a bright lad and you know your parents better than any of us.

If you haven't figured out a way to negate the problem then I doubt we can help too much.

I agree with Westyfield2, wait for uni and then you can do what you like!

they're not even my parents and I want to tell them to F off lol.

Where is it you live again? I cant remember :(

I could loan you my spare PC, at least for a few months, as its currently sitting here doing nothing, as is my other spare, and my download box lol.

Quick idea disconnect the power switch on the case so it wont turn on pretty simple thing to do and can easily be fixed.

Parents only do these things because they love you and want the best for you. At the end of the day tho they did some wild things when they where your age they wont admit it but they did and it seems they are stopping you from enjoying your life not just your pc. Life isent all about jobs and qualifications its about getting to the end of the road and saying you no what that was good. Not dam i regret i never did this and got to do that. LIVE LIFE AND ENJOY.

Because while I am quite handy with PCs, I still need time to build them and install software :p

I live in Derbyshire, and whilst that would be very kind I don't think I would be allowed to accept it :(

Seems its wait or kill then, tough choice - would like to game and edit at some time in the next 7 months, but then dunno how things would turn out if I did buy the parts.

I suggest buying part but get sent to friends house and then fake the computer dying and saying you mate has a spare part at his which will fix it but you need to take it there then replace all the internals with new parts and sell the old to make it look like you haven spent as much as you have.

Edit

You said you need te to install sowftwear and so on must go to friend a day or two befor and build it out side of the case and install everything so then when you take old one it's just a swop and it's all ready.

Start doing drugs and spunking your monies on that and then comitting crime to pay for your addiction, they will plead with you to spend the money on PC parts instead...!

But seriously, feel sorry for you man, and for all those telling him to man up.. you all know what parents are like, they know what buttons to push!

I have used that argument with laptops, but they reason that I'll be home most weekends to see the girlfriend (lives in same area, and is 1 year younger - waits for  He's a paedo :p) so laptop won't be stuck there over the weekends. Naive imo, but that's their (own certainly my mums viewpoint).

I know this is slightly delayed but yeah....

I'm in my first year, and I don't need my laptop for the course in lectures - doing economics, judging by the fact you're doing chemistry, you most likely won't either. I did a term with only a laptop, and got fed up in the end and brought up my tower... I haven't looked back....

As for stealing stuff, walking into a room and picking up a laptop, is MUCH easier than walking into a room and picking up a tower.

Also, watch out for their expectations for you going home every weekend, you might well be, but don't have them expecting you too, otherwise they're going to gain some kind of clingy element, and will be demanding you come home every weekend - I've seen it in a few people, it truly is tragic....

In addition, if you get an agreement to negotiate after exams, make sure you get some kind of guarantee out of them that if you do X you get the computer... otherwise I'm sure they'll come up with an excuse of some kind!

Also, Stulid you're a lightweight :p

Best of luck

Its virtually impossible to kill a modern pc on purpose as there are tow many failsafes which cannot be altered by the user. If you take the fan off it will shut down, if you put too much vcore in it will shut down etc etc etc.

If you want to break it use hammer! Other than that do as others have said and upgrade in the existing case bit by bit and they will never notice

I recommend you fill your computer full crap and hide it in the system tray, Including a prime95 instance thats running a torture test.Basically make it crawl. And then ask your parents to come in and try and use Microsoft Word 2007 or photoshop

Word 2007?

I'm back on 95 here

Sounds like a plan, especially with photoshop - any other programs to run at same time as a torture test?
