Is this desperate?

I want you to start a paypal account for donations, then when you upgrade and they ask how you got the money you can say that the entire culture of computer literate people disagree with there over bearing parenting style.

I have one already. But you can't buy from most e-tailers with Paypal, can you?

Besides, who on earth will donate to someone they don't know for something that's not exactly a "worthy cause"? :p

If anyone does fancy donating, drop me an e-mail in trust xD

If the whole OcUK community donates £1 each, and you show the account and this thread to your parents, then maybe that might persuade them :p.

Id donate some, I think this is more worthy than what most people ask me to donate to. Plus, imagine how big your smile would be if you got a free upgrade from that POS you have. Paypal can be used on a lot of sites, not sure if OCUK accept it, but I know several competitors do. Or you could always paypal it to one of us with a card and we can order it for you :)

Start a wanted thread and link it back to this, with the parts you want for either a new system, or a second hand core 2/p35 build and im sure we can sort something out.

Bordem breeds lazyness, the less I do, the less I cba to do, up to the point where I even stopped gaming and just watched TV/went out and got drunk. After forcing myself to game again (sc2 came out) I instantly got happier in life, more motivated to actuall do things that were worthwhile etc.
That is very very true, and applies to all areas of life. Probably the truest statement I ever read on these forums! I've also found that when I have an active hobby (even if it's just a good RPG or something) I'm more motivated to put more effort in my work, in exercise, and all other activities.

Sounds like a fair plan.

Just need to get donations without sounded like a selfish moronic ***** :D

So what's the best way of getting donations then?

A new thread? Where to put it, how to format it etc.

Obviously link back to this thread, but aside from that I don't know what to do :o

Thats dishonest, maybe on of us should set it up and then buy him the components?

Honestly.. when it comes up, just tell them you are going to do it and that's it. Don't let there be a discussion. If they don't let you do what you want know, they WILL ALWAYS treat you as a kid. Believe me! My mother told me at around 25 y/o when I had been to uni, had a job etc, and was temporarily living at home "Was I rebelling?!!?" and my Dad threatened to kick me out. Honestly, sort the moly coddling (spl?) out now.

Don't ever use the words similar to "I'm an adult", or "I'm not a child", otherwise they'll turn that round on you. Avoid anything that takes you into that zone. Just you've made your decision.

Also.. if your life is working so your mum/dad is doing the ironing, cleaning of your room etc, and cooking you dinner... consider changing it so they have no option but to let you do it. It's a pain in the arse, but will serve you better long term and your parents will respect you in the longer term.

Whether it's good or bad, your parents should only be offering advice at your age, not trying to force you to do what they want. Make mistakes, that's life.

I want to avoid confrontation and argument as the last time I broached this subject that way it got to the stage where I was within a millimetre of being kicked out (literally, my suitcase was open on my bed when I got back from school).

Do you really think your parents would kick you out over you buying a computer with your own money!
You will find out by calling their bluff if you are willing to just grab your suitcase and stay at a mates for a few days and just completely blank your parents, they will realise the **** has hit the fan probably by the time you put your hand on the door handle on the way out TBH.
If not just tell them to take a really good look at you before you go as it'll be their last time.
They would be pretty stupid and stubborn if they did let you go and also devastated before long, plus you could always return after a few hours or days and appologise if needed. ;)

I'll make a small donation, BUT only if you try the above first. :)

I'd be willing to donate a pound, or possibly a fiver. I have been in a very similar situation, pretty much up until last summer (even though I was 18 last april :( ).

Basically my parents would not let me game, go out, play for my 6th form football team etc until I had finished my A-levels. I had just built a brand new PC, had an Xbox and quite a few mates I liked to go out with, but was constantly banned from the various means of relaxation in my life, and unless I went through their strict revision scheme, I wouldn't be able to do anything they wanted.

However I rebelled, which was probably a bad idea, however it ended up with my male chicken of a stepfather being kicked out after my mum realised how much of a male chicken he was. I still did terrible in my A-levels though :) (even though I've ended up doing maths at Uni :D ).

So yeah. Lots of sympathy from this corner :)

My parents never want me to go buy stuff, when i was 15 or so and got my first debit card and my parents wouldn’t let me buy a mouse i just bought it anyway. It turned up and they were like what’s this, i was like oh yeah thanks my new mouse, they probably didn’t let me have the package until i had cleaned my room /sigh, but they did let me keep it. I just spent 1k on a sandy bridge pc, and i wouldn’t have got it if my mum had her way lol. I tried reasoning but it doesn’t work, i showed the lag of bad company 2 but somehow they still didn’t understand.

If you were going to 'just buy it' i guess you would have done it already, however i don’t see there being any more options. I would happily donate a fiver, i recon if we get a donation going with a trustworthy mod holding the money and buy you a motherboard you could say, 'well i got the motherboard now i need to buy the rest of it' lol. Plus you couldn’t return it if it wasn’t bought in your name :P Also say you’re going out on the **** take £40 out the cash machine and get a mate to add 40 to the donation fund, make it more likely to get enough then (oh but don’t really go out on the **** just go ur mates or summet).
