Are there any 'grace' periods if you buy something and then its reduced?

im sure its just a case of hard cheese, but been looking for a product for a while, watching the prices online and so on, i decided to buy from the well known rain forest place, and then 2 days later a 3rd is knocked off the price... just my luck.

now im not saying it should be the case, but is there any grounds or grace period for claiming back the difference? google seems a bit mixed, clearly i could send it back then re purchase, but was more interested to find out if there is some kind of time frame, or its just hard cheese :)
 
No, you bought it at the time when the shop wanted to sell it at that price, they then decided to change the price they want to sell it at. Send it back an get a refund, then order at the new price?
 
That's the risk you take!

If it went up you wouldn't be asking if you should send extra money!

yeah i agree, and no one forced me to buy it, but just wondered if there is any time frames on things like that.

If it goes up you feel you got a bargain, but when it goes down it feels like you just got robbed :D
 
Often if you can talk to a human for an e-tailer and explain you'll be returning it under distance selling regs and re-purchasing at the new price, they'll sometimes refund the difference. Easier for all involved!
 
Return it, get a refund and then purchase again?

well yeah i may do, it was not a huge price, were talking £20 lost, so nothing to worry about, i was just interested if there were any rules or regs for this kind of example. but as mentioned if the price went up and they called me asking for more :D

If you bought it in a shop, then they are under no obligation, you bought it as is for the price you paid. However, some big high street stores have price guarantees and such and may honor a part refund of the difference, the only real way to know is ask.

With online sales you are covered by distance selling regulations, so could always return it if they reduce it during the window. However, when it's happened to me, I've always just contacted the company and told them and they usually give a part refund. if they don't, just return it and buy again.
 
You can return it, usually for free and then order it again at the lower price.

I know people say tough cheese etc., but this is sadly the reason why a lot of places' returns policies are rubbish. :(
 
Equally as shameful to drop the price of something the next day though...

No matter what day they decided to drop the price it was always going to be the "next day" for somebody. What would you rather them do keep the prices up?

How do you know that the lower price is as a result of new stock being bought at a lower price. Someone buys product, they sell out and reorder more at a lower price. Based on that, they should lower the price of a product despite having the higher cost causing them to lose sales?
 
I had this recently. I needed a desk and found the perfect one for £150. I really didn't want to spend that much so I kept looking but I always came back to the same one because it matched all the furniture and was the right size. In the end I thought sod it and bought it. A few days later it was £75, 50% off. Not that easy to return a flat pack desk once it's assembled.
 
yeah don't flame me, i agree with the comments im just wondering if there are rules in place, i will call them up, its human nature to feel gutted if it gets reduced and elated if it gets marked up,

Perhaps... but I was referring more to when they have the item in stock and then drop the price. Ie, putting it on sale the next day etc.

I usually do the same if somebody introduces like a 10% off code the next day, I write an e-mail and explain that it's now 10% off, can I have a refund or credit... it's always worked.

Like I said before though, if you go into a large high-street shop, chances are they will honor a refund if they dropped the price a day or so later. However it's more likely to be independent or smaller stores that wouldn't budge.

At the end of the day, if you drop your price a day or so later... the customer spots it and you don't give them something back, you've lost that customer for repeat business.
