So, time to make a choice.

MSI GD65 v Asus P67 Pro.

I want the Asus but am leaning towards MSI as I cannot be bothered with the hassle of a board that won't work.

Are the issues with the Asus sorted yet? Did it even have any to start with?

Is it safe to buy or will I waste my day off pulling my hair out?

Opinions appreciated!

I personally am having major issues with ASUS and GSKILL ripjaw. i am in a small minority but a frustrated one.

Go msi unless you want to hang around waiting for asus to pull there finger out and get there problems sorted.
But you might be lucky and get a good board with no bios issues.

To be honest most other companies seem better at support than Asus with motherboard issues. Asus release a product then don't seem to care. It's like sony, they release good hardware but the software is cack. Go with the MSI or other brand (gigabyte) :-)

I am in the same boat as you Fox.

I just don't know what board to go for either.

Asus seems to be trying to fix the issues, but my gut feeling is to go with the MSI, even though i so want the Asus.

I am waiting to see what Evga's offering is like before making my decision, but as it stands now it is MSI.

Latest issue of CustomPC rates the GD65 over the Asus however the Asus won their award based on price. My choice would be the GD65 based on what i have seen with regards to the boards quality.

Asus P67 Delux with 8gb Corsair Venegnce C9 memory.

No issues here. Had the cold boot issue, fixed by BIOS update and Deep CMOS reset. Fox as Ive said the Asus is a cracking board and if it works you wont be dissapointed.

Exactly if it works thats the problem will he be lucky enough and the Deluxe is very exspensive.

what is there to decide?

if you really wanted the asus you'd have bought it, if you are so concerned then go msi its a no brainer.

My first order was the Asus P67 Pro the only reason it went back was all the issues other wise i would have stuck with asus and i will next time when the new ivy processers come out unless there over priced.
I just couldnt afford to have a pc with issues it need to be working 24 hours a day if needed.

Other than a nice UEFI Bios, Intel LAN controller and a Bluetooth module what does the P8P-67 Pro offer over the GD65 anyway?

I dont seem to lose much by playing it safe?

I went with the GD65, ordered the whole thing, chip, board and RAM about 10 minutes ago. My first choice was the Pro but after the issues I'm hearing I dont want to go through the hassle of making it work if I get a dodgy one.

Another vote for the MSI's here, although I went for the GD55 (didn't need all the bells and whistles of the 65) and was moving from a Gigbyte. I looked at the Asus and have a couple of Asus' in the past with no issues (same with Gb) but am glad I went with the MSI in the end as its been rock solid.

Theres loads of people reporting problems with the MSI boards as well over on the MSI forums.

I had the same dilemma as you at the weekend but in the end i went for the asus and the Geil RAM. So far its all been ok.

Thats what manufacturer specific forums are for though - I wouldn't be concerned with Asus forums full of problems either.

On more general hardware forums a huge prevelence for faults with one make tells a story - I appreciate Asus are outselling MSI 3 to 1 but the complaints are certainly not 3 to 1!

I have to retract my Asus flaming.. Im a stupid, it was all my fault.

IF i did everything correctly now knowing what i know the problems and Bios Flashing would have all been dealt within minutes.
