Have you ever been mugged?

Yeah when i was about 10...
Me and My cousin walked to the shop 3 minutes from my nan's house on the North Peckham estate (nice, i think they have knocked it down now) A Negro youth held a knife to my cousin's throat, all for 20p...

He was pretty shook up, i was like "what just happened?" kinda surreal tbh.

Studying in Newcastle Funktopus?

Aye. Well, just up the road in South Shields, South Tyneside College to be precise. I'm doing an Engineering Officer Cadetship for the Merchant Navy whilst living in the dreaded Dr Winterbottom Halls, so have only ventured into Newcastle once or twice on weekends since moving up here on the 9th Jan.

It's happened once to me. Some years back I was at a music event with my brother and a few friends. Lots of drinking involved. My brother went back to a girls house while me being as young as I was was told to get a taxi home first, but me being me I sent them off in a taxi and said I'd get the next one. Unfortunately I'd forgotten that I gave them my taxi faire so I had nothing on me. I thought It wasnt that far to my house (about an hour walk) so decided to trek off.

About 15 minutes into this journey I was approached by a group of 5 'black' lads with their usuall wonky walking. I decided to just carry on walking in the line I was and ignore them. But that wasn't going to happen.

As soon as I walked infront of them two of them grabbed me and frew me against the wall of this bridge. Before I realised what was going on another one had his hand at my neck and was screaming for me to hand over my money or ill die. I felt a cold sharp feeling on my neck and instantly assumed it was a knife. Then the two guys that were holding me decided to let me go and check my pockets while another one of the lads was getting worried and kicking up a fuss that they agreed to not use knives on people.

To this day what happened next is still foggy as it happened so fast and I am quite proud of myself for acting as I did.

Because I had no money on me the lad holding the knife to my neck started getting anxious, and to his mistake he turned to the lad that was kicking up a fuss about the knife and was having a go at him while the two that had held me decided to give their attention to the lil row that was erupting between their friends. I noticed the knife on my neck pull back and thats when I grabbed his hand and twisted it over and to my right, planting my left hand on his ribs I pushed him as hard as I could. My legs started to move and before I knew it I was speeding faster then I've ever ran down the road. I turned to see how far they were behind me and realised that one was lying on the floor holding his leg screeming while the others started to run off in all directions.

Any way police were notified and a few weeks later I was told that the whole thing was caught on cctv, apparently when i pushed the one holding the knife he tripped over and had caught his friends (the one that was protesting about using knives) leg with the knife with quite a bit of force. It had stuck in and been pulled down. As soon as his friends realised what had happened they ran.

Looking back I feel lucky I managed to get away and kinda sorry for the lad that did get stabbed and how his so called friends ran off. Still gives me the shakes a bit though.

Edit: sorry for spelling mistakes, as I'm in the University library and the keyboard I'm using is utterly disgracing.

Me and my mate once got mugged by a couple chavs when we were on our way back from a gig in Liverpool (yes the ultimate crime stereotype I know, but I love Liverpool). Because we had been to a gig, i hadn't taken any loose change, my phone or wallet but these guys stopped us and threatened us unless we gave them phones/money, I got pushed up against a wall and threatened again, despite me saying I had nothing on me and turfing out my pockets.

In my back pocket though I had a Subway voucher, which I offered, but it seems they preferred McDonalds and so they let us go. We ran as far and as fast as we could until we thought we were safe. Pretty lucky one that.

My flat got burgled a few months back too, but thankfully I wasn't in when they were doing it. They made off with the TV which is unusual in such an opportunist crime considering its size but hey. Not a nice experience, which I still aren't really over.

Someone attempted to mug me once. I had just started my Leave back in 2002 when my wife and I got off the tube pretty late when two men in their late teens to early twenties pushed past us from behind and one asked us for our wallets, watches and (wait for it...)my Kit bag!, my answer was " shove off" or words to that effect at which point the other pulled what looked like a butterfly knife and told me he would stab me if I didn't.

So, I punched him in the face.....he dropped the knife, holding his now bloody nose, his mate said " holy ****" and ran off leaving my wife and I looking at this kid who then realised what was going on and ran off after his friend.

I gained a knife, and a headache from the wife who spent the rest of the evening berating me about how I could have been killed and so on.

It still amazes me that two kids would even attempt to rob a 6ft2 16stone bloke who is obviously in the Armed Forces when I am sure there were easier targets about.

The sheer fact they were attemping to rob you at knifepoint in the first place means they are probably too dumb to apply any logic to their actions.

I was still in uniform as well, so I had Royal Marines plastered all over me. They weren't drugged up or anything either that I could see.

Just desperate I suppose.

In all fairness Castiel they probably had two and a half brain cells between them and had know idea what your uniform ment!

You are probably right, the bloke I smacked on the nose seemed totally shocked that someone hit him at all, he just stood there for about 5 minutes while his mate was long gone.

My wife was drive-by mugged about 10 years ago in ASDA Portrack car park. I was putting the shopping in the boot and she was stood looking for something in her back. Next minute I heard a scream and screeching car tyres, turned round and they were speeding off up the car park. Had to cancel a few cards etc but luckily she only had about a tenner in her purse at the time.

Whilst I'm sure there are exceptions I'm pretty sure most criminals are fairly low on the old IQ points. My flat got done over at the end of October, one of the things that was taken was my expensive Specialized mountain bike. Pretty distinctive, red and white with white wheel trims. Not something you'd see every day, particularly round where I stay.

Anyway, fast forward to christmas and I see it being ridden about nearby but always with a couple of guys so no chance to do something about. Phoned the police to let them know it's being cycled about, while not expecting anything to come of it. Anyway couple of days ago the police gave me a call, they caught the guy riding my bike just 2 streets over and he's now in custody and being charged with resetting while they rushed his prints to try and do him for the housebreaking.

No, but I have stepped in to prevent someone from getting mugged.

I live in London.

Just off to take some more protein and do some squats outside with paving slabs, your presence has reminded me to get back on it. Sorry for not going to the gym tonight, it won't happen again.

Good on you FF! No real biggies for me, a few maybes but looking ahead I managed to steer the other way before said groups realised we were even there. Not easy to do with a drunken misses not listening to me saying very firmly '****ing come this way quickly'

Always argue back and still probably thinking of the time you forgot to send an 'x' in a text 340 days, 12 hours and 36 minutes ago!
