New PC on the horizon!

I'd go for a Phenom II 955. More powerful for pretty much anything.

Then get a 5850 and a decent PSU and you'll be laughing!

Mhmm, if I do that though I reckon I'll end up leaving it at stock for a while before buying a cooler.

HD5850 was my plan - shame I couldn't grab one on pre-order :(

The spec your thinking of getting is pretty much what i've got now (only upgraded over the last month)

It's quite nice to know i can max games out when before all games were slide shows!!

ATM, build is speccing up like this:

Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £113
Foxconn A7DA-S ~ £55
4GB Geil 1600MHz CL9 ~ £34 (already purchased)
MSI HD5850 Twin FrozR ~ £144.98

Total = ~£345.

Don't ask for competitor links!

Especially as this is £60 over what I originally wanted to spend! :o

sounds like a similar upgrade path to me :D

1 5850 now, 1 in a few months when there probably cheaper to :P

im goin phenom 2 x4 955BE

dont forget to factor in a cpu cooler to ;)

id take a phenom over an athlon any day, had both myself, got shot of the athlon after a week due to it being worse than an intel e8200 dual core even overclocked at 3.75ghz. for the small outlay over an athlon its a big jump in gaming performance :)

Hmm, it's looking like the budget X2 555 or the awesome X4 955...

Unlocking is a strong likelihood, especially with the 790 chipset I'll be getting.

Eugh, decisions decisions.

Woo, guess what arrived today? Thanks again for the speedy delivery OcUK!

And I thought I'd treat you to a blast from the past, with a pic of my current rig (any tips on improving cable management will be nice for the new build - current management isn't bad at all, if I do say so myself :p) - Enjoy! :D

Got all my parts ordered now, and set for delivery on Thurs (although get the feeling no-one is in xD)

Parts are as follows:-

Went for the Phenom II X4 955BE and the XFX HD6870 (with free games :D :D) in the end!

Sounds nice :)

It is rather upsetting though, I see that ram in it's lovely box and think it could be arriving at my door any day now with my new system if it hadn't been for the chipset news :(
