NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Review Thread

So what's the max overclock one can expect from a Gigabyte OC version compared to the SOC version? I hear the 560 is something of an overclock dream machine.

at a start it's stock setting is 900 on teh core :D I'd say 950-1000 will be fairly common with the standard Gigabyte models...the SOC 560 model is a stock 1000MHz already lol

Guru3D only got the SOC model to 1044 so not a lot of juice left to squeeze out of it. Saying that the Gigabyte SOC 560 was putting the 570 and the 6950 to bed in a lot of game benches

the SOC 560 version walloped the 480GTX too lol

From TomsHardware...

Either way, my conclusion on the GTX 560 Ti doesn't change. It still doesn't present me with the overwhelming urge to upgrade. AMD's cards simply look better in comparison, based on their performance.

I'm talking about Gigabyte models...

Given the normal 560 is 900 on the core and the OCing potential is between 950-1000 I'd say the extra £30 you pay for the 1000MHz model might not be worth the extra 30 imo.

Saying that £199.99 for the 900 core model is decent value and tempting even at stock levels.

e-peen swingers will pay the extra just for the 1000MHz tag though :p

Hmmm looking at these benchmarks I'm finding myself in a state of confusion  lol!

So anyways I have an Hd5870 which has caused no end of problems in terms of reliability  so I am possibly looking to replace it and it would appear that with an OC This should surpass the performance by a bit nearling GTX570 levels, going by the Guru3D review which I think is fairly unbiased.

However upon looking about if I spend £250 approx I could get myself a GTX 480 which is surely a better deal/change from what I have at the moment, opinions? And yes 1080p so certainly the extra 500mb or so of RAM could come in handy.

For £230 it just doesn’t make any sense to get those cards though. Just get a 6950 2GB and unlock it to a 6970, heck you will even been able to overclock it to 950 Mhz or even more with ease. That is better than 570 stock performance for £220-£230 :)

It is also worth mentioning that all these benchmarks are useless really. From resolutions 1920x1200 onwards 1GB starts being a liability and you run the risk of running out of ram. It happens on F1 2010 and Metro 2033 during normal gameplay, not benchmarks. It is just impossible to play.

Other games with smaller textures or less demanding in this area are not so bad though but it can only get worse with the new releases coming soon.

What I'm really noticing with the last couple of generations of cards is that the advantage seems to shift between AMD and NVidia depending on the game in question to a far bigger degree than ever before.

The question of which is "faster" really does boil down to what games you play.

If there were 2gb versions available I might get two, but for my multi monitor needs and the fact that these are over £200, I'm swaying towards a CF 2gb 6950 setup now.

Not everyone wants to mess with BIOS flashes and overclock.

I'm frustrated that they are still putting 1GB of ram on cards at the moment, its not enough from what I have read into today to play graphically heavy games at 1080P

There are plenty of reviews out there of the 560 at 1080p in demanding games, does it look to struggle? The odd title will push vram, such as metro 2033. 1GB is certainly not holding the 560 back at 1080p.

Has anyone spotted any info on potential 2GB Gigabyte models?

I've posted the pics of it in the 560 PCB thread. Its an ugly red PCB with a nice looking, albeit 3 slot cooler, and another letdown is a VGA output instead of the mini display port.

Other than the 2 Gb, the Asus / MSI / Gigabyte versions of the 560 are supreme once again.

1 Gb is more than enough at 1080p. If it wasnt then how exactly would such a game run on an Eyefinity setup with a 2 Gb card?

Bare in mind that the 560 overclocked will be as fast as the 480 as well but will run significantly cooler and quieter and of course use less power, a 560 will give you all the performance you need.

The odd titles are the titles I want to play in 1080p

Don't use AA in the " odd " titles, if you must use AA then of course you will need more than 1GB in games like 2033.

idd, the price point of the card is all wrong at £230, but completely different at £180(as it should be).

The big question is, will the 6950 be likely to drop any time soon? If it goes down to about the 200 then nothing will stop me getting one and flashing it (hoping that the success rate is still high!)
