Spec me a retro car for £4k... I have a fire extinguisher for the flamers!

I know it's not a Ford/VW/Mini but: A Mk2 Toyota MR2 or MR2 Turbo

Fairly large following. Quick. cheap to maintain. 30mpg+. Handle very well. Rear wheel drive. Very usable boot. Plus the 90's attitude of making an interior luxurious by plastering it in leather! There's a fair few of them around as well.
I wouldn't want to do motorway mileage in it though. Pretty noisy.

More, MORE!

I wouldn't know where to start, so many awesome cars to choose from! I do know that should I ever get the chance/ability to own atleast one "retro" car for fun etc I would have to have a 19 16v again. Would have to be a Phase 1 hatch, in blue. I adored mine.

NOM!

But really, I know you will moan about this, have you thought about how much each of these will cost to repair? Unless of course you are handy around cars, which most of them will be pennies to fix.

Personally going from your thread from GD, you need to think about what is more important. A crappy, yet reliable Vectra/Mondeo will cost £1k and will help you sort out a mess of debt you have got yourself in.

OP - you give no mention as to whether you'd be using said car for everyday purposes?

If anyone mentions "retro" to me, my immediate thought is MK1 MR2, though I admit I'm biased (having owned one) on this subject:

Couple of K will get you a really good example, well within your budget!

Buy a really nice Dolomite Sprint. Better than an Escort in every respect and if you take care of it it'll be worth 2-4k more in a few years time........RWD, lively 16-valve engine, really nicely built, great interiors, plenty of style, loads of positive comments, ace to drive, loads of tuning bits too. Sorted!

Hi guys,

Third thread now!

I'm after a retro car, something fun, preferably quick or can be made quick!

Something that has a cult following and possible yearly events like ford and mini fairs.

I love old fords, VW's and minis...

Ive been looking at pistonheads but dunno where else to look really. Can people find any nice examples?

£4k budget can possibly go over but must be amazing!

thanks.

Little over but could haggle!

Rear wheel drive or front wheel drive or no preference?

RWD = V6 capri or Dolomite Sprint or modified Cortina Mk1 all loads of fun and you won't lose any money on them if you look after them.

FWD = Mk1 Golf Gti, 205Gti, Escort Turbo S1
