gtx560 or 6950?

No offense, but your current GTX460 768MB would be more than enough for your res (especially if you overclock it) and would easily able to last you till the end of the year...when the next gen card on 28nm process get released.

I think you should save your £200 and spend it at the end of the year on a 28nm process card instead (which should be even faster).

+1

If your GTX 460 768MB is OC'd to around 850mhz then I don't think its worth upgrading to either the GTX 560 or HD 6950 - I'd get another GTX 460 and run them in SLI.

:rolleyes:Great advice on SLI (NOT)

Your current card is more then good enough at that resolution, what you should do is save up for a new monitor with a higher resolution and wait till the next generation of graphics cards on the 28nm process and then update the graphics card. You will feel like you have been robbed if you upgrade the graphics card now or add a 2nd one to SLI at that resolution, you just won't see the benefits.

To answer the Op's question, if the 6950 still unlocks to 6970 then the 6950, if no unlock they are about equal and it wouldn't matter which one you got for 1680 X 1050 or 1920 X 1080 for that matter. Better card overall will depend on your needs, ie cuda, physx etc = 560.:D

OK, maybe not now, but when the newer games start taxing the GPUs more i.e. more games using dx11 and tessellation, then at least he has the option of adding a 2nd gtx 460 to his current setup and that will give him a notable boost in performance and by that time he can either pick up another gtx 460 on the cheap new (if they're still selling them) or 2nd hand.

I would also hold off getting a new monitor for now because he might decide to go 3d later.

I was thinking today and I wondered if I should go SLI or get the 6950, probably sli though, and getting a couple monitors and doing 3d surround/eyefinity.
should I do that or get a bigger monitor?

Only you will know if you should do it or not. There are plenty of detailed articles around that will allow you to figure out what's best.

You questions are getting silly now imo, go do some research and curb that impulse buying mode that's clearly going on in your head today. :)

It's not really an impulse, more an upgrade itch type of thing.

To hdcpgamer, I'm using a samsung SyncMaster 2032-BW
