Is there any reason not to buy XMS3?

I had to RMA my XMS3 and switch up to dominators in the end as I couldn't stop them from bluescreening on a coldboot (tried two sets) on an asus p6x58d-e. Dominators work flawlessly however so no complaints here.
 
ive updated the bios now, but nothings really changed. windows will freeze or reboot on startup if the ram is either not on auto, or is below 1.6v i think. any ideas?
 
I have 2x4GB XMS3 but have to run it at 1333 otherwise I get a message when I set to 1600 that overclock failed, I'm using Asus P8P67 Pro motherboard...they really need to release a new bios.
 
Got some XMS to try in my P8P67 Pro and it's running 1600mhz, 9-9-9-24 1T at 1.4375v, set in bios. Still testing so will lower the voltage a bit at a time. No cold boot issues at all.
The sticker on my ram says Version 2.3, if that makes any difference to those with problems.
 
Interesting to know there are different revisions. I'm still awaiting mine and my CPU to complete my build, but I imagine with the amount of this stuff that flies off the shelf of every UK etailor, the majority of stuff out there will be late revision that's the same as the Vengeance stuff.

mine is!
my asus p67 pro set it to this as standard, so I just left it.
Backed off to 1333 for now until I cba to flash the bios, but didn't seem to have any problems at 1600 (ran for 2 days solid, then had cold boot issue, which I dont get at 1333)

I am currently looking for some RAM for my new Sandy Bridge system, and was about to go for the "This Week Only" offer on the Corsair Vengance at £59.99, but am now wondering if I should wait for a few more days.

Mind you, the current offer will finish in Thursday, won't it?

Decisions, decisions! :)

Don't waste your money! See below - a quote from an earlier post by me - also check out the other posts on this thread. XMS3 and SB seem to love each other IMHO...

UPDATE: 8 hours p95 stable at rated speeds using 1.26875V. Anyone fancy trying to beat that?!

Thanks for the info!

There is however a certain attraction in using memory which the manufacturers have specifically designed to run at a lower voltage... and possibly with a higher latency also.

I am also curious to know who this new "pretty fast stuff" which Gibbo mentions is coming from, as it is still fairly early days in the Sandy Bridge world, and things are still settling down a bit.
 
Got my kit today. Rev 2.3 so hoping to run this at low, low volts!

/edit/ mine does 1600Mhz 1T at under 1.5V too :)

How do you go about testing RAM in windows?
I've got my XMS3 running at 1600Mhz 8-8-8-22 1T, unfortunately I can't lower the voltage in my BIOS so it's at 1.5v I think but it seems stable in Windows anyway!

Hi,

I have this ram coming and would love to know what board you have.

Love those timings, if it's Prime 95/folding stable, its a result.

I myself cannot wait for ram running 1T again, been long time and something I missed from my A64 939 days.

There is much discussion as to what programs are best to check stability. Personally I stand by Prime 95. If you head over to the overclocking sticky in the forums you will see screenshots of the things you are looking for, and it's also a good place to compare volts/temps etc
 
I thought after I posted surely its the same programs that I test the CPU with seeing as they use RAM. :p

I had to change it back to 9-9-9-24 1T because GTA IV kept on crashing with it at 8-8-8-22 1T. Windows was fine for hours though! I'll do some more messing with it.
 
My 3 x 2GB XMS3 sticks are running at 1531MHz (CPU clocked at 21x191=4GHz) at 8-8-8-22 with only 1.5V. Not tried any lower, but certainly great RAM :)

Runs at rated speeds at well below rated voltage but struggles to clock far beyond 1600MHz for some strange reason.
 
I'm not bothered with timings other than 1T really. Currently running at 1.5V due to laziness and new BIOS releases.
