NOTE: Before any wise guy posts that well know myth about all Japanese performance cars needing 100 RON fuel don't even bother typing :P (yeah I know ive pretty much invited it now)

Ok, ill soon be taking ownership of a JZA70 Toyota Supra (its the 2.5L TT version) it has a 1JZ-GTE engine, the problem is im unsure what fuel to put in it. Searching Google I found spec info on the 1JZ suggesting it requires 91 Octane or higher Premium Unleaded (which is equivalent to our 95RON Premium Unleaded) however the are plenty of forum articles saying it needs 97-98RON super to work properly (and ofc many internet heroes demanding 100RON).

I dunno wither to use 95 or 97 RON fuel in the thing lol, the engine was used in other Toyotas too so maybe somebody here can help. I thought of filling with 97 and then topping up with 95 and seeing how things went but if somebody has the answer id like to hear it.

Thank you.

What myth? A JZA70 needs 100RON unless it's been remapped for another grade of fuel.

Yeah I kinda invited this :P I know your just joking but for the record in case somebody finds this thread via search Japanese garages didn't start selling 100RON until the end of the 90's, if your car was made before Y2K then the is no chance whatsoever it will be mapped for 100RON (unless its been remapped ofc) despite what many keyboard hero's may say.

Whatever it's been mapped for.

That is actually my question :P

Needs moar 2JZ swap?

I'm happy with my 1JZ, it will decimate most, right after I put around £1500 in it, or more, and if I have to, next day before 1pm delivery parts from England.

Is it a UK spec or Jap import?

I'm also positive the Jap pumps would have been 97RON as standard back then, so if it's an import I'd run Optimax (is it called V Power now?) only.

Yeah its Jap spec, was never sold outside Japan, I would expect it to be 97RON yet the is a lot of info on the engine that says it runs on 91AKI (95RON) :S

Run it on V Power. Suck up the extra cost (Around £3.50 a tank) knowing that you car wont break because of the fuel, it'll break because you've cranked the boost up too high.

As already said V Power or equivalent, super unleaded if you get caught short

You could always get it remapped for uk fuel if you wanted
