That's a terrible attitude. If by pay through the nose you mean most games cost £30-£35 new then tough. If you can't afford to buy them then work harder or pick a different hobby. You don't see someone saying they want a faster car but don't want to pay through the nose for one so they steal it instead.

Either playing it flat out or it's just a poor game. You're telling me you don't get your monies worth from games like Uncharted 2, MGS4, GT5, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3/New Vegas?

Not sure tbh, I don't think you can because of driver issues. I know last time I tried to use a PS3 pad to play games it was a nightmare and the only solution I could find was to download these third party Japanese drivers and even then it would only work with the USB cable attached. I bought a 360 pad in the end.
That doesn't half sound like a right pita. :|

A quick Google shows that the game is relatively short. Read a few reviews, determine a games value - and then either buy it, or don't play it. Any gamer that complains about a game they have spent >£30 on when there are plenty of preview/review sites out there simply deserves all the annoyance they receive.
I do find it funny how people get so annoyed over piracy. The people that do it are going to be in such a small minority. Get over it.

To be honest I wouldn't even bother downloading MGS4 or GT5, let alone paying for them. Garbage.
Those are all top games and not one person in the world should be entitled to play those without paying some type of fee…
Most of them can now be purchased for less then £20 now anyhow…
Uncharted 2 was at best 10 hours to play the story start to finish but even at the asking price on release of what - £39.99 it was worth every penny IMO.
As for GT5 and Mass Effect 2, those games are easily worthy of £40 and Mass Effect 2 can be had for less then a tenner on xbox 360.. Tell me that’s not worth it? Lol
As for the PS3 firmware updates from Sony, only problem I have is I have to keep updating my console, and it always scares the heck out of me in case it buggers up..!!
I’m not interested in CFW, MKV playback etc on my PS3. I can actually play MKV using PSMediaServer. I’ll be honest, I do not see one single valid reason for a custom firmware for a PS3 console other then for something you shouldn’t be doing.. Its IMO and I know, it’s a lot more subjective then this…
Anyhow, what do I know? I’m too busy enjoying GT5 and Mass Effect 2.. lol

Good for you. Maybe some people don't want to have to rely on a PC being turned on in order for their PS3 to playback MKVs. There's a valid reason right there and it's nothing to do with 'something you shouldn't be doing' unless you are of the opinion that if Sony don't let you do it by default then you shouldn't be allowed to do it. Herp derp if so.
Well, ok I will grant you the 'play' a mates copy of the game... Good and valid point.

Really bad example of a game - its meant to be a retro arcade title where the aim is multiple playthroughs to beat your score. The games setup like that for that purpose alone, exactly as Platinum Games wanted it...

you find it funny? try telling that to Sega that basically destroyed their console due to piracy.
it isnt good full stop and is reason to get annoyed over it.
* Devs stop making games bc whats the point - they end up losing money.
* the next console comes around with even more restrictions.
it starts with the minority but soon enough everyone and their dog has the bloody thing running.

I was considering buying a new (entirely legit) PS3 for gaming and CFWing my current one to use as a media centre and for retro emulation, but I realised that the PlayTv premium listings update via PSN, so I’d need to be able to log in.

Nail on head. Pirates are pirates. Got laugh though at those that most probably download films but complain about the games. Same thing really. What the hackers are after is machine that will let them use all the pirate software without hassel
I like to use unrestricted, open formats in unrestricted, open containers on unrestricted, open systems.
Pretty much all my rips are in x264/OGG.MKV format sitting on a ubuntu server.
Also, MKV has excellent support for multi-chapter, multi-audio-stream, multi-subtitle-stream media.
Unfortunately, whilst PS3mediaserver tries to fill the gaps, MKV playback on the PS3 is still horrific - the A/V always slips out of sync, and you can't skip back/forward without waiting for the transcoder to catch up. Native MKV playback would mean I don't have to switch over to my HTPC whenever I want to watch a MKV file.
So MKV files must be pirated files?
Just think for a second - why are so many downloaded films in MKV format? It's because it's a great container. Hence why all my LEGIT media is in MKV format.
