New low for this once great nation

I hate how people harass fat people in the streets when they're out getting exercise or take videos of them at a gym and upload it on youtube. :\

I haven't seen that but would be very unimpressed if I did. In fact if I saw somebody doing that in the gym I would certainly say something. I don't care if they look like jabba the hut they deserve a bit of respect for trying to do something to improve themselves.

i thought the staff at most gyms were pretty strict with people taking photos or videos of others (without permission), as in GTFO and membership cancelled strict.

I had someone give me grief once in the gym, when it was suggested that I shouldn't be there, that I should be in a McDonald's or something. The staff didn't have to do anything, a couple of bodybuilders heard this, and made it pretty clear that they'd better leave, pronto.

When I used to go running, I used to get 'people' shouting at me all the time from cars. I didn't bother to stop and point out the fact I was fat and running, they were skinny and driving **** cars.

:D
The exercise is actually quite addictive, I never realised before I got injured just how good it makes you feel, compared to how I felt with the weight and laziness.
I like it after the fact, just not before/during.

Erm, what? His pancreas/liver is already knackered, it won't just fix itself! He may be able to control it more due to less stress on his organs, but it won't go away!

That is not true, if he has type 2 diabetes (which is the most likely) weight loss will help and in a lot of cases negate the need for treatment entirely. In fact the insulin producing cells in the pancreas work overtime in obese people and produce too much insulin, which cause the intolerance within the cells of the body, when you lose weight you also reduce the amount of insulin needed to allow the cells of your body to use glucose, thus the need for more insulin is negated and type 2 diabetes is no longer a valid diagnosis.

Diabetes caused by Insulin Intolerance is not the same as not producing Insulin at all.

A stone is not a lot of weight. Now 12 stone is.

It is not easy to lose weight when you are obese...losing a few pounds when you are already slim and fit is not that hard or the same thing at all.

Why is it harder for obese people to lose weight? I thought it was easier, as they have a higher resting calorie usage than a person of healthy weight.

I understand things are different when they have water retention problems, or they get so fat they can't move to exercise: but that doesn't sound like it applies to this guy.

I wasn't really speaking about the chap in the OP specifically, but generally. Losing weight is not only about the physical aspect of dieting or exercise, it also requires a significant change in lifestyle.

For a person who needs to lose a stone, it is a simple matter of doing a little more exercise than normal or cutting out the afternoon snack or evening beers. For some one who is obese is requires a total change in the way they eat everything, how they exercise (many have no idea how to exercise) and it permeates almost every aspect of their lives.

An obese person more often than not also needs to address the underlying reasons for overeating, be it psychological or medical and like me there can be many factors that need careful consideration in relation to how you diet and exercise.

Just feel safe and happy in the knowledge that he will have an insane amount of excess skin after loosing weight from the gastric band. He will also throw up numerous times due to trying to eat even a little bit too much over what the gastric band will allow.

Also if he wants the excess skin removing then he'll have to have plastic surgery to have it cut away. The recovery period is long and very painful.

Not the best laid plan really. He'll suffer in the long run.
