2011 - is it going to be a great year for PC gaming, or a major disappointment?

Hi guys,

there are some great games lined up for this year already and I have already preordered more than I have done in a long while. Looking forward to:

Deus Ex 3
TES V
ME 3
DA 2
The Witcher 2
The return of The Duke
Diablo 3 .... hmmm, maybe not this year ...

However, I've got a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I'm going to be disappointed. I'm not trying to start a PC v console debate, but I'm worried that some of these games are going to be nerfed for the masses.

The only game that I have complete faith in is The Witcher 2, primarily as the first was created specifically for the PC and that they released a major overhaul for free as they were disappointed with some aspects. Major publishers take note!

I'm also fairly confident of ME3 as it shouldn't deviate from ME2 which I actually enjoyed, although the mechanics are rpg lite ...

My major worry, however, is Deus Ex 3 as I love the first one. Disappointed with the second (I didn't even complete it ... just gave up). Hopefully they've learnt their lesson.

Anyway, not trying to flame, just trying to start a nice debate :)

I'm hoping Deus ex 3 will live up to expectations, recently read a preview of the game in PC gamer and it seems as though the game is much more in keeping with the original. Also reported to be a lengthy and challenging game, fingers crossed the report is accurate.

I'm going to be so annoyed if Diablo 3 isn't this year. Still Torchlight 2 should be this year?

Can't wait for all the above, Deus Ex 3 is showing amazing promise, the devs really seem to get the Universe. Skyrim will surely be awesome, ME3 is the follow up to one of the best games of this decade. Dragon Age 2 looks great from what I've seen.

I'm really liking the look of The Witcher 2, even though I got bored of the first. I'm a big fan of the books so I hope the second can deliver where the first didn't.

Deus Ex 3 could be a major letdown, very skeptical tbh.
TES V looks like its been consolified badly. Hopefully mods can sort it out but the core game looks good.
ME 3 should be epic but i wonder if there promise of over 1000 variations comes to more than just a few lines of dialogue. Should be great though.
DA 2 looked crap. It looks they tried to turn it into a hack n slash action RPG.
Witcher 2 should be good, hopefully better balanced than the first so it has more replayability.
Duke... old school hopefully. Should be good for a laugh.
Diablo 3... yeah probably not this year.

I loved ME and DA on the xbox, I just wish I could play it on the PC - the DRM rubbish really put me off. Anyone know if they'll continue with it?

I'd be really surprised if D3 isn't out this year, they've released all of it's classes/pvp/lore etc, so there's not a lot else to keep fans hooked for another year.

I'd like to have said Crysis 2, but so far it doesn't exactly seem like a game of the year contender.

I think this year's looking better than last, apart from all the above i'm looking forward to RAGE, iD's new engines always bring the wow factor back for me.

Shogun 2
Portal 2
The Witcher 2
Mass Effect 3

Those games are destined to be awesome, so that's already a good year - the rest that have potential to be awesome, even if only a couple deliver, it will be a fantastic year.

Dragon Age 2
Crysis 2
Shift 2
Duke Nukem Forever
Brink
Skyrim
Deus Ex 3
Red Orchestra 2
Dungeon Siege 3
RAGE

Dunno about that but the point is that a year is such a long time that you're bound to find enough good games to play (especially when you factor in cheap deals on older games via Steam etc).

Come 'holiday season' (~November) you always get loads of AAA titles coming out (plus Steam sales) so the year ends up OK overall, IMO if you want to scout out disappointment it's better to consider quarters - Q4 is always good so what about Q1, Q2, Q3, are they going to be great?

Its going to be better than last year... it has to be so many 2010 letdowns :( I am hoping the following are worthy PC games (even if they are multiplatform releases!!):

Bulletstorm (still 1 month away)
Crash Time 4 (moved to mid March)
Duke Nukem
Crysis 2
Assassins Creed Brotherhood (put back to April now)
Fable 3 (moved to April so most likely May now)
From Dust
Brink
Batman Arkham City
Portal2
FEAR3
Alice Madness Returns
Operation Flashpoint Red River
F1 2011
Street Fighter AE (its strongly rumoured by the SF4 Capcom producer we are getting a new SF title so I'm hoping its AE instead of SSF4)

There are still plenty of PC games which we do not even know about for 2011 which means in the next few months expect a few more big announcements as well around April-May time.

If PC gaming gets as many poor high profile games as last year it will be a massive setback & signal less commitement from the publishers (is that even possible!!!).
