Gillette really do make the bloody best razors

It took me 1 shave to get used to the Merkur, and shaving time is only slightly longer than a disposable too (however my skin isn't very sensitive). I'm yet to cut myself either.
 
I've used a Fusion for years, I only need to shave once a week though, so cost isn't really an issue for me. I hate Gillette shaving foam/gel though, King of Shaves rocks my world.

Question to the Merkur converts, have you actually tried the new Proglide thingy? If not, how can you really comment on it?

My own Fusions last 1 month (5 shaves per week) so it costs me circa £24 per year for blades...

I personally have no problem with it. Plenty of people have a great shave with the thing. All power to them and their wallets.

What I have a problem with is the cost of the damn blades at 1 per week. It was the last straw for me. :eek:

Spending all that money on those Fusion proglide power blades must be some weird form of willy waving. ;)

I agree - King of shaves is brilliant - the missus uses it as well for her legs... Great stuff.

They don't make razors! It's just a blinking stick and when you think of it like that it's much more expensive than Gillette, Wilkinson Sword etc.

They are finely made and look great, not dayglow orange plastic crap. They are just a stick, but as has been said the weight and length of handle is important. As is the shape of the head and how it holds the blade. You also have adjustable DE razors which need to be very robust.

Merkur do make razor blades btw. They are quite good. Though I prefer the Japanese feather blades myself. Ninja-Assassin sharp according to one reviewer! :p

Precisely. Why even bother trying a razor that will cost more than both my DE razors and all the blades I have ever bought after only 4 or 5 packs of blades. I have 200 blades in my drawer. That is more than a year's worth for the cost of one pack of 3 ProGlide.

At the end of the day it is horses for courses. I love my Merkur Fusion, gives me a great shave and costs me next to nothing to use.

Merkur is overkill for those of us with bum-fluff that only needs to be shaved once a week though, so having a Gillette for a quick clean shave without any cuts (I can do a full wet shave in 2 minutes) makes more sense.

You'll not get much of an argument from me about that. ;)

For those of us with hair like wire it's just too much to spend. I'd rather exchange an extra 5 minutes of my time every day for the money I'm saving. :)

Finally, after a week of getting used to the new shaving regime, no nicks or cuts at all, and nothing compared to the slices from using blunt multi blades either. Phew!

I have a Merkur its ok if not slightly overhyped and expensive for what it is. I use it once a week for a nice clean shave and electric in the week to keep things under control...
 
i used to like gillette but imo the new Sword Hydro's are much much better.especially if you have a lot of facial hair. it seems to clean it up much better with less irritation.
 
Grow a beard boys!!! Trim it once a week or so, no need for this daily shaving nonsense.
Even those girls that say they can't stand it will get used to it/ like it.
