Stability problems at stock 2600K

Hi, i planned on overclocking but after doing some tests to make sure my current system is running stable at stock speeds i think something is wrong.
ok so first of all i run the intel burn test which showed

intel burn test 1st attempt - stress level standard run for 5 mins then fail

i tried
high stress run for 20mins fail
Max temps show
core1 - 51
core2 - 51
core3 - 54
core4 - 56

2nd attempt - high stress run for 5 mins fail

then i run OCCT

occt
1st attemps after 2 mins - fail core 4
2nd attemp after 15mins - error detected on core 2

im running a i7 2600K
Asus p8p67 pro
Geil 1600 value ram currentley running at 1333.

i have run a memory test which shows the memory is fine.
i have also updated the BIOS on the mobo to the latest version which is 1204

do i have a faulty CPU or motherboard?
i have been running this setup for a couple of days now and i havent received no BSOD or any other stability issues.

Ok so what's faulty the CPU or the motherboard?

pretty sure that has nothing to do with it as the issue is with the motherboard's and the sata connections.

your issue im not sure you will have to wait for a more experienced member to drop by. I know some of intels cpu tests fail if you raise the voltage for oc'ing but as your at stock i dont know.

Have you tryed simply flashing the cmos and retrying?

By flashing the cmos do you mean reflashing the new BIOS again?

yeh, i found that pressing the flash bios button on my mobo didnt do much so trying to boot the comp without the power lead did the trick.

Hi, the memory I have is GeIL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel (GVP38GB1600C9DC) [GVP38GB1600C9DC]

BIOS settings for mem are all set to auto. Clocks are at 1333MHz, timings are 9-9-9-28, voltage is 1.5. All set on auto and haven't been touched by me.

I'm not sure if my CPU socket is labelled foxconn how would I find this out would I have to remove the heatsink?

Do asus mobos still default to 100+ a bit clock speed? If so, go into the bios and force the base clock to 100 and re-run the test.

It's pretty much impossible to tell which of a cpu and a motherboard is faulty. Probability says it's the motherboard. Test the ram thoroughly though, as in don't rma anything before running memtest from a cd overnight.

It won't have anything to do with that. I have the same stuff and haven't had any issues.

I'd try clearing the cmos- battery removal and move the jumper to clear. Try that before you start flashing anything and also run memtest with everything at stock.

First thing I did before I even started installing the OS on mine was set the ram voltage to 1.5 and bclk to 100 with all spread spectrums disabled so maybe give that a whirl as well?

Hi, I have changed everything as suggested and its running a lot better.
Intel burn test run on very high run for 1 hour and everything was ok. Run it again and stability is fine.

Now I tried it on max and it failed again however my friend who also has a I7 2600k also had this problem.

Has anyone run a maximum test with Intel burn with success on a sandy bridge chip?
