Achievements and Trophies…

You can still look at the specific achievements and figure it out that way, but I concede that that does mean drilling down further into someone's gamerscore.

It is way faster comparing individual games on Live than it is on PS3 in my experience. Although that might be because I don't have tonnes of games to scroll through on my 360 played list.

Naah it is - the way it works on the PS3 is poor - the whole mechanics of synching and comparing just isnt as quick as it should be and theyve had plenty of time to make it work better...

What has interested me is that it Achievements arent great at relevance (by relevance I assume the most used comparison is how many games have been 1000/1000 or Platinumed - it seesms the most popular question in these forums) until you drill down to the game list, while Trophy categorisation (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) provides the same relevance without the need to drill further down into the games list (you only get a Platinum trophy when youve completed all the others).

Socially Achievements work better, but I have always wondered why people thought an arbitary number meant something other than a relationship to your play time, its only til you break it down (just like Trophies) that it becomes somewhat useful to compare. Its also curious to think about how that itself is a motivator

I look forward to the next consoles as I suspect such things as what EA has been doing and how some people want to compare their scores, while others want to use them to challenge themselves will be displayed in a far more relevant manner (i.e. tells you how many people on your FL has played the game you are playing and how many have a higher percent completion rate than you and who is next to 'beat'). There also has to be some feedback reward into the game before such a system becomes stale...

But then theres levels, e.g im 76% of lvl 12 one of my mates is level 12 but hes only 24% through it, so therefore i know in the superior human being :p

Not really it could be that you have just played more games, imo the only comparison is who has the most plat's, and even then someone could have more because they completed games like terminator :-/

What I like with the trophies is that I can platnium a game without having to purchase DLC etc.

i like the achievements on 360 and find they lead to me getting more out of the game and while the trophy system on PS3 is a great add on, the lack of trophy sync is most disappointing.

I quite enjoy goig back and getting them. Definitely increases the longevity of my games.

Oh, and for the record, trophies are way better than achievements. :p

In a lot of games (mostly XBLA) there are opportunities to compare with your friends list highscores: this became particularly frustrating/enjoyable (:p) on games like Trials HD and Doritos Crash Course! :D

Love it when an achievement pops up, I am nearly on 20k GS now and find myself going back to games to get 1000g (going to take an eternity)...

tbh I pay so little attention to trophies that I don't really get what they're for. Platinum I get now because everyone has been going on about them here. I could Google it I guess but they're so inferior to GS that I can't even be arsed :p

For me Trophies increase the replay value of a game, especially with a game like Fallout New Vegas, after paling 'normally' for 80 hours I looked at the trophies I was missing and worked towards them.
It was also nice to start from the beginning again to get the Hardcore trophy.

Having got my 360 today and 'earned' my first couple of achievements I definitely prefer the Playstation's trophy system more - just find it much more rewarding getting a Silver trophy rather than x amount of numbers put on my Gamerscore :o
