Gigabyte Announces 6-series Motherboard Replacement Program

From that article...

1) Gigabyte has stopped shipment to and recalled any unsold 6-series B2 motherboards from distributors and dealers.

...does that mean that OC will stop selling them and send theirs back..?

Interesting about the CPU , if you get a refund for the board what are you supposed to plug your 1155 chip into as you can't buy a board that isn't effected !
They should refund both board and cpu if you want to take the option of going a different route, i.e. back to x58 or what ever.

I,m having the same dilemma, I just received my CPU from Overclockers and it's still sitting brand new in the box not even used.

Overclockers can you Confirm if I RMA my i7 I will be entitled to a refund minus the shipping?

They should do what WD do with RMA harddrives

Advance replacement

We ship the replacement product to you first before receiving your defective product.
You have 30 days to send us your defective product.
A valid credit card is required to insure that WD receives the returned product within 30 days from the date on which the replacement product is shipped.
Please see below for more details about the service:

Rather than waste all those boards, how about selling them 1/2 price for people prepared to use two less SATA ports :)

TBH, I'd happily accept a 50% refund rather than return the board as the 6Gbps ports are unaffected as will be the separate JMicron controller on mine, so I'd have plenty of ports without going near the affected ones :)

I bet it won't cost any of the motherboard manufacturers anything, doubt it will cost the retailers anything either as Intel will have to stump up the costs, it's their stupid fault anyway.

It all depends how long you tend to keep your boards for, if you sell on 12 - 24 months after buying then a B2 chipset will effect the resale value considerably, it is the first question buyers will ask

Doubt they'll waste them, they'll probably just unsolder the dodgy chip, put on the new one, box them up and sell them on again.

We'll have to see, someone will probably let slip what they intend to do, replacing the chip on the mobo is more than possible, but the manpower involved, the time taken to collect every mobo and get it to a centre capable of doing it, the man hours per board to desolder/solder new chip in.

Its probably going to make very little economical sense to even ask for the old boards to be sent back. They certainly don't want, for PR reasons, to ask everyone to send the board back then take 3 weeks to send the same boards back with a new chip put on it, and if they give out new, and repair old boards they'll end up mostly with boards that need to be sold as repaired/b-grade.

Anyone heard anything back from OCUK yet re the Gigabyte replacement/refund issue?

Is that anandtech statement 100% official? Can I send my P67-UD3 for a full refund now?

Yes you can get a refund - you could say it's not fit for purpose.

What would you do with your Sandybridge CPU in the mean time though? Would you not be best to replace it when the replacements arrive?

I'm going back to my older stable pc and wait till it all gets sorted. I'll contact OCUK for a return.

Thanks

As Intel cant supply a fit for purpose board to put the 1155 cpu in then they should refund the cpu aswell, i have asked for a refund on both ! not at OCUK though , still waiting for the offical word back.
I probably will sit it out and wait for a replacement as i cant get anything better anyway, but they should still offer a refund for both! and i think they will

I agree with you. I don't know official policy though. It's going to unfairly hit retailers hard if lots of people get refunds on Sandybridge stuff, so they'll want you to do the replacement, but that's the way things go in retail.

Just found this, I'm sure others will follow soon.

Looks like you can get you money back or wait for the B3 stepping in april.
What surprised me is they will accept non working boards too!!

Same as MSI who are saying you can take board back to supplier for a full refund.

Msi statement below

How to get support
We want you to have a MSI product which you can trust and rely on. This is why we have 2 choices for your purchased Intel 6 series based MSI products;

Product swap
If you are confident and willing to wait we can swap your current Intel 6 series based product in a brand new MSI product which is based on the new B3 stepping of the Intel 6 series which solves the current SATA2 port issues. If you have an MSI 6 series mainboard you can – for the short term - connect your storage devices to the safe white SATA3 ports on your mainboard with no detrimental effect, for more detailed instructions please click here.

This MSI product you get swapped will have similar or better specs. These new MSI products will become available in April and this way you are free to keep using your current system until a replacement is available. This way we can ensure the smoothest possible transition, and the least downtime for your PC. You can identify the new products by a clear sticker on the colour box. We will release details about this procedure before the end of February. If you would like to be contacted via email as soon as more information on this service is available, please send a blank email to [email protected]

Product return
If you are not able to wait for MSI swap service for your Intel 6 series product, MSI offers you the possibility to return the product to your point of purchase which will credit you. Please make sure to back-up your personal data.

That sounds interesting about the new products, might be worth waiting for then , but what do you think they mean, z67 or something similar being released at the same time do you think?
