1680x1050 or 1920x1080?

I have the Samsung 233HD amd with it being a 23inch screen, I can't really see much difference... by the way... in order to fit all the pixels on the screen, wouldn't they need to reduced the size of each pixel on this screen?

Yup. I think its called the pixel pitch?

hmmmm changed my GTX480 order to the MSI GTX470 today, beginning to think perhaps that wasn't a good decision but does that have any bearing on the advice about what res to go for or will the GTX470 still be ok at 1920x1080?

Isn't it down to the memory a GFXs card has, I beleive i've heard you need at lease 1GB to be sound with 1920x1080, is that correct folks?

Thanks guys, plumped for the GTX480 in the end, being delivered tomorrow :) Need a new monitor to get the best out of it now, might go for the Samsung P2450H, gonna be at least 1920x1080 anyway otherwise it won't be doing the GTX480 justice!

hmmm now wondering if I should go for 1920x1200, seem to be pricey though, anyone recommend anything not too expensive at that res?

When I went for a monitor upgrade to 1920x1080 60hz I wanted something that would double as my TV, play my Xbox 360 and be my PC monitor (its in my bedroom, recently lost the office to a lodger... but its extra cash...)

I ended up getting a samsung P2770HD. Its a 27 inch TV, DVI monitor and its got HDMI ports for everything else. At under £280 It was better value than a lot of 24 inch monitors, didnt need PC on to watch TV as the tuner is built in, its spot on size for movies in my bedroom, is decent quality (series 6 esque picture), 1080p 60hz and not forgetting 27 inch rather than 24.

And a GTX470 coupled with a good CPU steams along on it without a hiccup, usually with pleanty of AA to boot.

One happy customer here.

Seemed to suggest 16:10 (1920x1200) was better

Neither is better really, its down to personal preferance, in games your only gaining 120 vertical pixels which isnt going to add much to your experience, and if you watch movies then 16:9 is better hands down seeing as everything is encoded in 16:9 or wider, so 16:10 will leave black bars

I could live with 16:9 monitor although it's a bit painful to work on sometimes.

I couldn't move from my relatively cheap IPS monitor to any of the TN panels I've seen so far. All that Full HD/LED/10000000:1/2ms GtG marketing crap never really worked on me and seeing that there's no real problems in using 1680x1050 (and I've got a decent TV for video playback), there's no way I'm moving to Full HD or above until IPS panels become more affordable in 24-26" range.

hmmmm a lot of conflicting advice here :( Don't get me wrong I appreciate the replies but I think I'm even more confused about what to get than I was when I started. Definitely getting 1920x1080 minimum otherwise I won't get the best out of my GTX480, still like the look of the Samsung 2450H although the 23" Dell IPS Panel is tempting as well....

Well today i recieved £150 worth of gift certificates for amazon (am I allowed to say that?) from work (10 yr long service award) so I've ordered the Samsung P2450H from there, being delivered tomorrow. Would have bought it from here but with £150 sat in my account at amazon I'd be mad not to use them towards a monitor really! Ended up only costing me £30 :)
