Which ugrade would you do if you were me, gtx 480 or a Ultrasharp?

Current set up:
Q6600
BFG GTX 280 OC
1tb Samsung F3
640gb Samsung F3
60GB OCZ Vertex 2
Biostar T-Power I45
2x 2GB XMS2 DDR2
Corsair TX650
Asus VH222H 21.5"

The reasons for getting the Asus GTX 480 are firstly that it's cheap :D But secondly because my 280 does struggle a bit from time to time because i do like playing on high settings. Also because it is BFG so i want to replace it before it breaks so that i can sell it on. Not that i think it will break but i don't want to get to the point where it does and i'm £70 less off because i couldn't sell it. I also want the 480 just because it's awesome :D Oh and the noise and the heat don't bother me because i have a HAF 932.

The reason for gett the Dell Ultrasharp U2311H is that i am really starting to get into photography and would like the comfort of knowing that the monitor i am using shows the pictures the way they really are, which i am not sure my Asus does. Also, i have always wanted a Ultrasharp :D

So which would you do if you were me?

ide go for the GTX480, purely & simply because you need to get rid of your current card whilst it's still worth something, & this is probably the only opportunity you'll get to buy a brand new GTX480 for under £200.

meanwhile the Dell Ultrasharp U2311H will still be for sale in a months time, or 2, or 3.
 
To be honest i was leaning more towards that anyway. The reasons "the 280 needs to be replaced before something happens" and "i need a better graphics card" do severly out weight the reason for getting the dell which essentially is "i want a better one".

I think that just from writing this reply i have made my decision to be honest! I also have atleast 1 person lined up to buy my 280.
 
I think the decision is made! I will get it tomorrow as i'm too lazy now :p

I will start saving for a Dell though!

i see you comparing a gcard to a monitor...
To improve graphics the times right for buying a monitor and if you get a gcard now you can get a nice deal on the 480 nvidia but if you wait a month you'll notice a real large drop in price on gcards due to radeon launching their newest edition to drool over making the rest drop their prices... If you get the gcard now you'll be kicking yourself in the coming month, and no thats not a gaurentee it's an assumption.

because amd's recent grahics cards and release dates have been great latley?

I'm asking what to get right now. To be honest the same could be said for any computing technology, there is always something better a month or two away so i would just be waiting for ever for the next best thing.

when looking at the amd 6950 it would seem they are getting back on track with their job...

that card alone only takes software to bump it up to the 6970 version capacity.
before lookin at the amd 6950 i was seriously considering getting an nvidia and i can't stress enough how i hate nvida compared to amd. But that card has made me revert back to the idea of getting an AMD...i'd much rather have an AMD then nvidia any day of the week. cost wise, yes nvidia are cheaper for what you appear to get... AMD will be rightious once again i'm sure

take a look at amazon's monitors/TV's, they themselves have just knocked upto £100 off some of there's, and with this new amd launch the 6950 will be falling in price in a matter of weeks not months

in other words amd yet again cant be bothered to manufacture different cards so they put a diffrent bios on and a diffrent sticker

this doesnt mean you are getting a 6970 for the price of a 6950 all it means is if anyone buys a 6970 there affectivly buying a 6950 oc edition nothing else nad everyone knows you can overclock a standard card to an oc card some people just like to pay for that privelige

Ill have whatever is faster and tbh its nvidia nobody can make a single gpu work faster even though on paper ati should be better looking at card stats there just not cutting the mustard and tbh its been the same since nvidia released there 8xxx series of cards in 2006
 
I dont think you will be regretting getting the 480 if you manage to get one on the offer price, if you did not then I am sure that you would be kicking yourself wishing you had got the graphics card while it was on such a good offer. Of course this is when next week they have an amazing offer on a 580 or something.

We get enough of this in the gfx card forums... Everyone is getting rather bored of it now...

Edit: Oh and OP I'd get the 480 out of those choices, just to warn you unless you have adequate cooling they can get rather loud. It's the same with most high end cards these days, efficiency most definitely needs to be improved by both manufacturers.

Yes go for 480, monitor isn't a performance increase! 480 is a fantastic price and at that price, its a no brainer : ) Monitor can wait, you will have all the time in the world to buy a decent graphics card, keep your system running in mint condition first and foremost! You won't be dissapointed with the ugprade from a 280 to a 480!!
