*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

I've got it down to 30% now. The noise situation is far better. But now the card idles 63c+.

I've never normally been anything but thrilled after installing new hardware :(

Edit: Fan speed now climbing as the idle temp climbs. Sigh

Just installed mine. Not done anything with it yet but:

a) My screen appears to be slightly blurry. No idea whats going on here.

apparently i heard its to do with the reg keys not able to install

I'm desperately searching for a method of controlling the fan speed, as I hope that by reducing it to 30% in Windows I can cure this. MSI Afterburner doesnt seem to work - if I set it below 44% it stays on 44%?
i dont think you can

Sorry to burst ya bubble but you should have gone with the 470soc

I can hear it at 30% as well. Idle temp now 70c.

It's not loud, but it clearly there - a drone over the sound levels of the rest of my system. This just wasnt the case with my 280 :(

Can't see :)
+1 :(

(And yes i tryed clicking the image to enlarge it and it no worked)

It seems to be enlarging for some people and not others,as there already been about 4 replys saying they can see it...

imageshack is totally rubbish...Need use somewhere like photobucket ;)

Well the advice everyone gave people thinking of 560SOC's to get this instead seemed like a great waste of time :P That'l teach you to recommend something you've never used before :D

The loud fan noise is ridiculous - it's nothing like the 280 so I've no idea where all those graphs showing the noise as like a 280 came from. Oddly it isnt that hot at load, 79c whilst playing Crysis but with the fan set to 30 not only does it still drone but it idles at 70c.

Fan speed at a staggering 75% in Crysis compared with just 60% in the same game last night on my 280.

Really dissapointed, not sure what to do now :(

b) The fan noise at idle is louder than my GTX280. Loud enough that it is clearly audiable over the rest of the system and has been a constant source of irritation since I installed the card 10 minutes ago.
It been reported by just about every review site and loads of owners that the GTX 480 fan was loud...

Surely after all the loud fan reports you where not expecting it to be quiet

well thanks for headsup those early adopters - I've decided to save 50 quid and go for the FOZR 470 instead - I'm sure it will be fast enough overclocked (well hopefully !)

Certainly much louder than my 280 at idle too with the default fan speed settings.

Edited the fan curve using afterburner and set it to 32 and the card is idling in windows at 50c.

Will see if I can live with it - but if not I'll DSR it and pay the extra for a 570

A £100 more for a GTX570 ?

The same review sites had graphs showing it to be as loud as a GTX280, another card people complained was loud. I had a 280 and didn't feel the noise to be an issue. Therefore I took the information I read and thought that if it has similar noise levels to a 280 it would be considered loud but I'd be able to tolerate it.

This isn't even in the same ballpark as my 280.

Ok... looks like it might come to this from the more recent reports, so I'd just like to be clear:

If I open the card, install it and test the noise levels, can I still pack it back up and send back under DSR? Or can you only send back unopened items? If the latter, given what people I might just send the thing back unopened rather than take the risk, and stick with my heavily-overclocked-but-nice-and-quiet GTX 460 1GB... ;(

Ok, I'm idling at 37C, have you got double monitors or something?

Agreed - my 280 is inaudible for normal desktop work.

Yes I have two monitors but what difference does that make to idle temps?

I've got a well ventilated Coolermaster ATCS201 with two 80mm intake fans and 2 80mm exhuast vans.

2 monitors connected drives up idle temps. What do you get with just 1 connected?
