hi guys jsut a question i wouldl ike to ask i got a gtx 580 card and i ran 3d mark 11 with the spec i have below but for some reason i get very low fps i never get higher than 10fps unless i set the program settings on performance based then i get 30fps

any idea here is the rsults it came up with when i ran the program

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/575491

any help would be really good thanks

It only shows one test.

How does it play games?. Tried any other benchmarking software?.

Did you uninstall and re-install your drivers correctly when you put in your new GPU?

Also your sig is too big, change it before a mod see's it, max 4 lines I think.

do a full test, it sounds fine 30fps is good for a 580gtx

remember it tests cpu as well so overclocking to 4ghz would improve on it a lot your currently at stock?

average 580gtx with an overclocked cpu is 6k-64k overclocked GPU its up to 6.7k with a light overclock.

my 480gtx at stock gets 5.1k overclocked is 6.2k so ive roughly overclocked it to the same speed as a 580gtx at stock and that gets 30fps.

do a heaven benchmark and see if you get 1600-1800 its working correctly

when i play games like dead space 2 it runs very very smooth on max setting with the v sync off games work fine only fallout 3 and this 3d mark has problems bad company 2 also works fine.

It's a punishing benchmark - On those settings the individual test results seem fine. Ive just done a run with one of my GPUs disabled (and CPU @ 4.2) at the same settings you have and there scores are quite close

As far as I know you have an overall score of "0" as its a custom run and you don't get a comparative score.

You're better off trying a run on the "Performance" setting and seeing how you fare TBH but IMO that score looks fine.

Heres the link from the single GPU Comparison - My GPU clocks are slightly lower than yours and I have several apps running atm

Also, a comparison of yours, mine and mine with 2 GPUs:

what resolution was your test done on mine was 1920 x 1080

i do the extreme settings preset

maybe i should select the performance preset but change res to 1920 x 1080 and see if thats makes a difference i know i wont get a score as its custom but it may improve my FPS

Yep, mine was done at 1920x1080

Just run the stock performance preset and see what you get - im telling you those results are fine :P

yeh im pretty sure they would be i also would like to overclock my cpu to and at 3 or 4ghz better im not sure my mobo will be able to hack it doe and my power supply i tihnk i have a decent amout of cooling in the system doe :) going to check the overclocking section see what i can come up with.

is that running at 4ghz cos it say 2.67 on the 3d mark 11 results ?????

im a noob to these things :)

4.4Ghz, he states at the top of the page. It's just 3D Mark not reporting or can't see the overclock on his CPU. When my CPU is overclocked to 4Ghz Windows reports it as 4.62Ghz. So that is why you use CPUz :).

i see thnak you for that is there any easy to way overclock my cpu as im a real noob and do not want to cause any damage to my computer.

i want to maybe push my cpu up to about 3ghz or 4ghz max.

i read the user guide in the overclocking section but still quite confused. lololol

It's better to go into Google and search for a i7 920 overclocking guide. Read a lot and try to understand what is needed to change your overclock and stabilize it. Write down BIOS settings you are advised to change and to what level and then it's a matter of stress testing to see if your overclock is stable.

Every CPU is different so telling you what I done to hit 4.2Ghz on my CPU or hitting 4Ghz on my friends i7 might not work for you so it's better that you read and understand what you're doing and start from the beginning. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. The only thing that takes a while is stress testing.

If you have the cooler that came with the i7 920 then you will probably hit the maximum temperatures allowed quicker than others using performance air coolers so remember that if you don't hit the clocks you are seeing others hitting. When you have a better understanding of what you are doing then you will be able to decide if you want/need a better air cooler than the stock cooler. I'd recommend it though as I think you'll hit a wall of high temperatures before hitting your highest clock.

Use Prime95 for stress testing for your overclock. Use small FFTs if you want to test the CPU mainly and the Blend test if you want to test the RAM and CPU at the same time. If you choose to overclock the CPU only then you won't need to run the BLEND stress test. This program will have your CPU at 100% on all cores and will stress it out more than you usually would with normal use. People usually run it between 6-24 hours but I find 8 hours is fine for me personally as if my CPU can run at 100% for 8 hours straight and I'll never use it like that then I'm more confident that I won't expose any errors that the stress test couldn't.

Once you learn it and start to make progress then you'll be fine. It's just a lot to understand to begin with but you'll get there once you get hands on with it. Everyone is different but I'm sure you'll never forget how to do it after you learn :). Good luck.
