Depends on your outlook. Take 1 religious zealot who brainwashes a small group of people to believe that blowing up the 'infidels' is what your God expects of you and you could say this is religion making people do this.

Yes I know its still a person telling these people thats what God wants them to do, but it is done under the guise of religion. Jihadists beleive they are fighting a religious and holy battle against the paganistic infidels of the west. You can hoenstly sit there and say thats not religion, as it is their religious (albeit misguided) beliefs that are guiding them here

Oh I hate Eastenders too, but that's small enough for me to ignore.

But religion isn't easy to ignore because it's intertwined in global politics and you can't escape politics.

So its practically impossible to ignore religion despite it because the cause of a vast amount of upset in the world.

It is not religion. it is a political ideology that uses religion to justify its ends.

What you really have is 1 power crazed individual who uses the beliefs of some vulnerable people to justify his quest for power.

Likewise, you can take 1 intolerant individual and the ends are the same. Religion is the justification, not the cause.

You would have to be pretty narrow minded to believe otherwise actually.

Jihadism is about politics and power, not religion.

Politics or Intolerance are the cause, religion is simply just another justification for political ambition or intolerance of difference.
