So what? Betting in £10,000's and you'd have made £45,000?

Gambling is a 'mugs game' no matter how good you are at it.

yes you would have, gambling is a mugs game for many mainly the addicted gamblers who like ive said time and time again even if the odds were in there favour they would keep gambling till they didn't have a penny left.

"Gambling" yes, is a mugs game.
Betting in itself is not, providing you have an edge.

People in this thread are coming close to trading, and not gambling.

There are people out there trading horse odds on betfair etc, that make £100,000s a year, making a very good income and having it as their only job.

If the OP has an edge of some sort, getting better odds than the SP than is he really gambling?
I don't think so, sure he is betting, but he seems to have an edge.

£4.50 on £1 bets is awesome profit, usually you are talking a 2-6% edge when arbing at MOST.

I made £16.50 on £260 the other day, was very happy with it indeed, considering it was twenty minutes work.

do you find your accounts getting closed/restricted a lot when your arbing ?

I've not been arbing a lot tbh, mainly getting through the bookies matched betting first.

Although if I see an arb along the way I will place it if it's above around 4%.

Not had anywhere restricted/banned yet.

Becoming harder and harder to find good arbs :(

keep at it, i know someone who makes a living from it.

I've heard of a few who do too.

Just not that good of it myself!
Need to find a good tool really!

If anyone has any recommendations let me know :P

you need to be working in more than £200 - £300 for starters unless your finding some monster 50% arbs :D the person i know who arbs for a living just has pages of betting up waiting for a firm just to offer that little bit more on a event.

Only have about a grand in total to work with at the moment.

So people who do it don't use programs to find odds?

some do some don't, if your struggling with finding them manually maybe its time to get a program :) also try and get in a semi-private arbing/betting community people post there arbs there after they have got there use out of them.

I have no idea where to find a place like that :D

it just saves you work, im sure you will find such place if you google. most arbing forums if you contribute your arbs to a select few arbers who are good at it, they will soon start sending you there arbs asoon as there on.

Pro gambling tip: Get job in bookie security department, find monitored customer who wins a lot, copy their bets. ;)

Too bad im on security in all of our high streets bookies :( but yes good idea. They try to make me use there bonus cards in most of the shops so my bets get logged, i think they can also input a number every time you bet though which does the same thing.

On the plus side Sutton (second nearest high street near me) they all let me have £50 per bookie on a dog tonight needless to say when i collect tomorrow i better not be seen for a while 4/1 LOL

Yep they will have you in a list of monitored customers, every time you place a bet they press 2 buttons and it gets added to your list. From that they can see how much profit/loss you're making :)

i knew they had something like this, they deny it in the shops.

They don't monitor everyone, just people who are either consistently bet large or on specific events, who they deem are a threat to the business, or they feel may have a problem.

You would have been restricted for the simple reason that you're damaging shop profit levels (they're a business afterall, not a bank) and limiting you prevents you from huge winnings. Likewise, it is also an attempt to make you go elsewhere without outright banning you.

Chances are you've been restricted because you appear to have contacts or are in the know and are damaging shop profit margins.

well some shops have a loyalty card now and the company can use to see profit, loss, times of day they bet,fav bets, stakes, online gambling aswell as phone gambling pretty much everything so they dont use the monitoring now if they have a card

No different to you using your Nectar card.

ye,i suppose even betfair shows you profit loss ect so isnt really a big deal, just some people hate the idea of companys having this information

you wont make any money long term betting on races that you dont want to bet in and have to choose a winner, select your own races and stick to singles.

Well of course I know that. My suggestion was to have a bit of entertainment where we can all publicly make selections and give our reasons behind them etc. I enjoy attempting to solve the puzzle that every horse race is, and enjoy other peoples opinions too, all part of the fun.

I am very dubious of your vaunted edge for making profit, without inside information on dogs I think you would struggle to break even. The EW punt yesterday was reckless IMHO if you are going to be serious, you may or may not have a valid strategy in betting on unexposed value in EW betting, IMO though you would need to bet heavily on a technique that I would respectfully submit hsnt been tested enough, I am massively sceptical, post your bets on here and all can see if you make profit ;). My opinion is that you need to be studying/watching racing and living and breathing it THEN bet big to make a profit, this is not easy and takes cahoneys and dedication.

I`d still like a thread for fun though where we can opine on Saturday's racing?
