ladbrokes, william hill and betfred.

Well of course I know that. My suggestion was to have a bit of entertainment where we can all publicly make selections and give our reasons behind them etc. I enjoy attempting to solve the puzzle that every horse race is, and enjoy other peoples opinions too, all part of the fun.

I am very dubious of your vaunted edge for making profit, without inside information on dogs I think you would struggle to break even. The EW punt yesterday was reckless IMHO if you are going to be serious, you may or may not have a valid strategy in betting on unexposed value in EW betting, IMO though you would need to bet heavily on a technique that I would respectfully submit hsnt been tested enough, I am massively sceptical, post your bets on here and all can see if you make profit ;). My opinion is that you need to be studying/watching racing and living and breathing it THEN bet big to make a profit, this is not easy and takes cahoneys and dedication.

I`d still like a thread for fun though where we can opine on Saturday's racing?

I posted my selections yesterday at a meeting i didn't actually back at apart from the placepot and one 2/1 single i showed 4.5 points profit if you backed in level stake singles. I do try and watch every race and get all the information i can. Another day today where i don't have time for a proper bet since i have other things to do. I will make some selections but i really like to see the market throughout the day if im betting properly. Just about to look at the racing post now, on a normal day i would have been up at 8.30 wating for the 9 oclock shows.

Saturday racing thread sounds like a idea.

ye,i suppose even betfair shows you profit loss ect so isnt really a big deal, just some people hate the idea of companys having this information

betfair dont limit you, the only thing hindering you on there is the liquidity at early morning.

1:15 HOME 2/1 WIN
1.35 JACKIE KIELY 7/2 WIN
2.45 COLORUS 11/4 WIN

hard day today, none of the non fibersand polytracks are on. should be one winner there though. im not having a bet today as I have phone calls about college to make etc. good luck if your having a quid win.

Have you guys heard of matched betting?

It's a guaranteed way of turning free bets offered by bookmakers in to cash that you can spend. The Daily Telegraph did a piece late last year: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...tips/8185280/Is-this-a-bet-you-cant-lose.html
Did you actually read the thread?

I posted links on the first page.

And I heard that quite a few people clicked through, my friend who runs cashhungry said he had an influx of new visitors from ocuk.

Ah you see I've been using fixtheodds.com which is an automated MB site. I've just had a look at cashhungry, but I think it's a more manual approach to it all?

1:15 HOME 2/1 WIN - WON P/L £2
1.35 JACKIE KIELY 7/2 WIN - WON P/L £3.50
2.45 COLORUS 11/4 WIN - SECOND P/L -£1

4.5 POINTS profit.

Are people still dubious to why they wont take my bets ?

well done, but would like to see comments as to why your selections are made, not being difficult just like to learn a bit about other folks selection methods etc. I start with a solid appraisal of Form Fitness Class and Conditions, though recently I find myself weighting class more than any other factor. Oh and you said you weren't having a bet, its more difficult when you have a bet ;), so the points profit doesnt count :)

erm great - its got little to do with the thread tbh.. other than it is also involves gambling. You're rather unlikely to get banned/limited for making use of a signup offer rather they're likely to want you to bet again - its fairly limited anyway...

Also there is still some risk involved depending on the bookie/event you're betting on - as with arb'ing you could end up exposed at the exchanges with one leg.

Turf accountants aim to make profit. If they lost more than they won, they wouldn't be in business. Same with casinos. They aren't in the game to lose money now, are they?

The statement was

Gambling is a 'mugs game' no matter how good you are at it.

How is it a mugs game if you are in fact good at it - i.e. you're able to consistently profit from it?

In general yes it is a mugs game - most people lose - but 'no matter how good you are at it' ??? I don't see the reasoning behind that.

You can't be good at gambling. You can be good at understanding and predicting sport, which can be used to make a profit in the bookies, but if you really can predict and understand a sport well, then you can probably more money in the long run becoming a pundit.

Complete rubbish tbh... there already exist people who are good at 'gambling'

Find me a pundit who's made more from being a pundit than Bill Benter has in betting on horse racing?

Or Phil Ivey has through playing poker?

This is effecting your betting career, your emotionally attached to your betting. it makes no difference if i have a bet or dont my selections are the same and I back in level stakes.

Class is King
Horses for Courses

ill run through why i selected today.

1:15 HOME was a two horse race in my opinion i managed to choose the right one due to market confidence and knowing my horses.

1.35 JACKIE KIELY Won the same Race last year and the 2nd fav won it the year before. JACKIE KIELY was in form and had been out recently compared to the second fav who last ran in November. JACKIE KIELY was rated allot higher on Official Ratings and if he couldn't beat this field it was time for him to be sent to the glue factory. HE IS 10!

2.45 COLORUS A progressing sort on the AW will probably win soon providing hes in the right race also in Sellers the well supported favourite or another money-horse 9/10 wins.

heres some tips that will get any punter having more winners.

Favourite in Sellers or the market mover.

If Top weight in Claimers or near top weight is backed or a solid favourite you've found your winner.

In low grade races especially maidens where its only £2 -3k prize money FOLLOW THE MONEY HORSE! it costs about £400 - £600 a week to keep a race horse the owners and trainers will have a big bet to pay for there horses upkeep if the moneys down it will show up in the market.

Back horses that have won over Course and Distance and like the ground especially in the testing ground over the jumps even if they are top weight. if you can find a each way able horse in one of these races your onto a place almost certainly.

Dont listen to any "Tips" punters in betting shops give you unless they are well respected for there knowledge/contacts.

Back Luke Morris on outsiders XD
DONT BACK MCCOY ODDS ON!

Fair enough, relatively sound reasoning ;), I still think to maintain profit with this MO will be/is difficult, tho you are showing flexibility which is also important IMHO. BTW I always back level stakes too if I engage *seriously* , on very rare occasions I will have a small EW double or so to relieve work boredom. Have you read Patrick Veitch's book?, entertaining read, along with Mordin, Coton (the first to champion "value" as it is referred to today, IMHO its simple common sense), Nevison I`m not so sure about, bit cavalier, Veitch at least was very studious and disciplined, Mordin is a bit mad but at least has interesting angles. I`ll try and start a thread on Friday if I get time on two Sat races?, we can evaluate and opine :)

I've been betting on tennis for the past 8 years and have only made a very small profit. I consider it a hobby so I'm happy with no loss. I'm convinced in order to make any decent money you need inside information such as player injuries, illness, not really interested in winning etc. Women's tennis is the funniest - they choke so often from a winning position you can lay them at odds of 1.1 and watch them lose 4 games on the bounce.

Choose two of the scoop big field handicaps there the hardest on Saturdays. Ive read about Veitch but haven't read his book. I do make profits monthly and have for about the past 5 months since i started betting properly. Before that i have no record of profit/loss so i couldn't tell you. Keeping logs of bets is crucial to profit, money management is also key.

you dont need inside info, it just boosts profit.

I don't think that applies to tennis. I backed a player last year who retired after the first set - turns out he was sick the night before and probably wasn't going to turn up. Add those instances up over 8 years including non-triers, guys who wanted to leave ASAP to get to play the qualifying rounds of the next event and it could easily mean the difference between a positive or negative P&L.

I started at around your age and I had some beginners luck before I had a few tough losses which I learned from. I used to have a go on the flat racing but I find it a minefield now. Jockeys taking a pull around the outside of the track when there was no need to, usually following a big drift in the Betfair market...
