A3 or Golf (2001)

Mk I Skoda Octavia VRS falls into the £2-2.5k mark - worth a look, same family of cars, otherwise Audi A3 would probably hold its value more than the others, not sure on repair/running costs though.

If your looking at a MK4 golf, watch out for major electrical issues, water pump, make sure its had a cam change.

I have just bought a MK5 2.0 GT TDi, I have my mk4 GT TDi110 on the drive ready to be cleaned, and got rid of, riddled with electrical problems, immobiliser problems, pump problem

:D or he could JUST TELL US

well seen as though you asked so nicely ;)

It is a VW Golf 1.8T 2002 '52' Plate - Indigo Blue - 114K Miles - 1 Owner - Dealer Service History until about 85K

No mention of recent cam belt change though - so I am going to get Belt and Waterpump changed. On the plus side it has a decent amount of Tax and a 12 Month MOT.

Couple of other minor issues (like drivers seat catch not working, minor scratches) - but in pretty good nick and better than some others that had done around 80-90K

Will get some pics up once the deal has been completed tomorrow! (assuming it is ready to pickup)

Thanks for the input guys.

How much?

Hope for you sake it's had all the usual stuff replaced by previous owners, otherwise a 2.5k car could easily turn into a 3.5 or 4k one.

Im currently looking for a similar car but around the £3500 - £4000 mark. I think im looking in the wrong place however as i cannot find any decent 1.8t Golf's/Bora's for the money you guys are discussing.

Any pointers?

Mine had stuff replaced, but still soon turned from a £2250 into a £3.5k (and over!) car lol. Part of the fun of owning a MK4 Golf it seems :)

Dont be silly we all know that once a car is cheap its cheap, £20,000 cars instantly cost pennies to run the second it says £2495 in the window.

mine was £2k.

Springs/dampers £250 (originals werent actually that screwed but i wanted to lower it)
Clutch £100 Flywheel and other bits £150 Crank seal £50 (all replaced at 164k)
Front bushes £10
Discs and pads cant really be included as theyre a consumable, but even an upgade to the next size up only cost £95.

not really a lot to go wrong with them as its all quite simple stuff under there
