I love command and conquer 3, my housemate and I play it over LAN and enjoy it.
I haven't got CNC4 after it's reviews. We like civilization V, but the LAN crashes. I also *may* buy starcraft 2, i've played it at a mates and it looks good but i'm interested in mainly LAN / Online play, and i'm not sure how good it is in them areas?

Does it have leaderboards, a good community, a fair game and a space for noobs ( because i'm going to be rubbish for a while )?

Or,.. Are there any new C&Cs, Red alert or anything like starcraft / Civ coming out soon? I'm a bit bored of CNC3, Civ isn't working right and crashes ( Which really is annoying after such a long game, it's also slow on LAN to play ), and starcraft i'm unsure about / my housemate says he doesn't like how the units look and feel ( I'm not fussed, I thought it looked great ).

Thanks
Steve

Shogun 2 Total war is due out in about a month.

Not sure if this would fit the bill or how strong multiplayer is in the series.

One to have a look at maybe

Sorry to hijack the thread but didn't think it was worthy of making another, are there any really good base building RTS games obviously with the military element. I remember AoE2 yonks ago building a huge base before fighting, starcraft2 just seems lots of cheesing and less base building, i'd rather something i could relax on abit =P

Company of Heroes, there is emphasis on base building if you play annihilation mode.

I'll have a look at dawn of war, thanks for the info. Also going to have a look at shogun 2. I own Napoleon total war, but i'm not hugely keen on it.

P.S Age of empires - What a game! I saw they are now doing AOE online or something, looks ruined to me when I saw it.

Not a hijack at all, I think maybe this is the question I meant to ask only better worded.

Yeah i am not particuarly keen on the look of AOE Online, shame I loved the earlier games so i will keep an eye out in hope.

Personally I did not like empire total war and didnt even bother with napolean, but the rest i loved so i am hoping shogun 2 re-kindles my interest in the franchise! It looks really good so far just hope its fun!

Ok this is confusing.
On Steam I see:

Company of heroes
Company of heroes: Opposing fronts
Company of heroes: Gold
Company of heroes: Tailes of Valor

Valor says it is stand alone. Gold says it's CoH and CoH opposing fronts.
So, am I right to assume that Volor is the best, most recent, and that I don't need CoH or CoH opposing fronts?
Or would the other expantion ( Opposing fronts ) add more to the game?

if you buy tales of valour alone you get full multiplayer features all the factions units etc
you don't get to play the campaigns of coh and opposing fronts

if you buy gold or opposing fronts you wont get the new multiplayer units of tales of valour
so if you think you'll be playing online mostly just get tales of valour
coh on thq sites sale

SC2 is one of my favourite RTS at the moment. Used to play SC1 all the time on LAN, but as mentioned I would imagine you need a b.net account for each player now. It's a very well polished game, easy to get into but extremely in-depth if you want it to be. Search youtube for casts by people such as HDstarcraft, Askjoshy, Huskystarcraft for tasters showing games by top world players. Furthermore map modding and creating comes standard with the game, so you can get lost for hours making your own maps or playing other peoples whether it be amateur or official modded maps (the map editor that comes with the game is the same tools used to make official maps, leading to extensive posibilities). The new b.net league system is excellent as well, you start with 5 games to determine your league, then as you win games it'll decide when to promote you e.g. from bronze to silver, gold etc. Probably told you a lot you already know, but hope it helps :).

thanks! With how cheap it was i've bout CoH, and will no doubt buy starcraft 2 very soon. You've sold it to me BJames. The only thing I guess that had stopped me so far was that it's not on steam, which is kinda frustrating as i've not been using Steam long and have been trying to move my games onto there because i'm great at loosing DVD and CD keys!

Supreme Commander : Forged Alliance is by far the best base building type RTS I've ever played. I'f you've never given it a whirl, I highly recommend it!
