Hyundai are releasing a 1.6 4 cylinder turbo charged motor producing 208BHP according to this months Evo. More details will follow at the Geneva motorshow in March

Anyone have much more info on it?

Yeah it states that I couldnt remember the name at the time of typing, its also going to be in rally spec too

I was thinking more along the lines of torque/mpg/0-60 etc

look at the mini cooper S JCW engine, thats probably where they got it form. Its in so many cars now, its in peugeots citroens etc..

Why would it be the PSA engine MrLOL? Have Hyundai signed an engine deal or are you just using the sort of logic that would also suggest that a Mondeo and a Vectra had the same engine :D

Hyundai are a lot more on the ball with styling now.

Wouldn't be suprised if in 10 years time they are viewed by the public as equals to Ford and Vauxhall.

I'm pretty sure they are ahead of Vauxhall already, and I say it will be another 5 years until they are equal to Honda/Ford/Toyota

They've already got 140bhp in the Avante, without the turbo, so 200 bhp is this plus that I guess, I don't think its a mini engine though, think they're pretty good at making they're own :)

oh and already beating Vauxhall in my books :) ...about 10 years ago!

I'd say it has 208bhp because the mini has 208bhp, makes them look 'comparable' in press/punters eyes?

Hyundai, styled by Fray Bentos!

its purely guesswork.

buying somebody else's engine in is much easier than desiging their own. As i said, that engine was co developed between BMW and PSA.

It won international engine of the year 2010,2009,2008 & 2007 in the 1.4 to 1.8 category. (VW 1.4 TSI is in the 1.0 to 1.4 category)

Why develop your own when you can just buy somebody else's in ?

We'll see i guess, they could have developed their own. its just a bit of a co-incidence the stats are close to that of the 1.6 Turbo in the Cooper S JCW.

I hope its their own engine, its a bit of a let down when engines are just bought in and not developed in house, like the Focus ST for example. I know a lot of people will disagree but its my line of thinking

i've done lots of searching and turned up nothing.

Its not been used in any of their existing motors so it appears to be brand new. Doubt we'll get any details till the launch at geneva.

Report says 205 bhp.

Also mentions its the same as the lower tune engine and feature direct injection. There is no way a Korean company would use a PSA/BMW engine either.

LOLgic fail.

Hyundai has a massive RnD section for powertrains, of which they are extremely proud - they will be using their own engines :)

Quite.

Hyundai have made the most incredible strides over the last 10 years or so - they've turned into a powerhouse.

Hyundai unveiled their 1.6 GDI "Gamma" engine last year, the higher powered engine is almost certainly going to be a turbocharged version of this.
