Well lads my monitor remains the last thing in the room that needs upgraded and im currently using a 1680x1050 dell 2007wfp which isnt bad image quality wise.

I dont think i can wait any longer and i REALLY like my anti aliasing and even though ill never run sli due to microsutter i am prepared to upgrade every year if the res is going to be killer image quality wise.

Even being able to run older source games like l4d and tf2 would be really really nice if i was able to clearly see a difference over 1080p.i would be sitting at arms length to preserve my eye sight so say 2 ft viewing distance.

what do you u2711 guys reckons? its the one ive been starting at for a while:cool:

the dell 3011 is amazing i also sit 2ft away from the screen(tbh it took a week to adjust to the size but now i dont think i could ever down size much

I'd love a 2560 screen too, as for the work I do I can never have enough screen real estate, however, at the moment I have a screen with a res of 2048x1152. It's not as large as 2560, but it's noticably larger than 1080p and was not much more than a 1080p screen. At 23" the pixel pitch is tiny.

It's a dell sp2309w. Colour accuracy is a little off off, but for the work I'm doing it's not important. there are other 2k screens around (not 2.5k) whihc might do as a stop-gap. I know it;s not what you're looking for but you might not have been aware they existed.

pixel pitch is where its at to be honest as i remember clearly getting my first lcd after my trinotron died and even with 8xaa it looked like it had no aa with the massive pixels.ive gotten used to it now as i had no choice but id like to experience that again.

comapred to 1080p though just how much better will a game look thats my question really.if i see more of whats going on screen thats a bonus but its about gaming image quality for me.

neal i wish i could see just how good 1600p is witha modern game.

It definitely looks better, but everyone is different.
To me the u2711 was well worth the money. My friend thinks it is worth it. However my brother who does see the difference doesnt think it is worth it.
It is definitely the best image quality i have seen during games. The pixel pitch is tiny along with the higher resolution makes for the sharpest picture i have ever seen. The colours are brilliant.
The AG coating on the screen is pretty aggressive. From reading internet forums it bothers some people. But in my experience, everyone who has used this monitor has not had a problem with it.
If you are already thinking of the u2711 it makes me think that will not regret your purchase.

Phil.

Got a Dell U2711 (upgraded from a Dell 2407WFP) with 2560x1440. It is a truly amazing screen, more so at the price I paid. The definition is absolutely staggering.

I would go BenQ EW2730.
The EW2730V-VA is a 27" VA panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It's not even in the same league.

I used to have a 3007WFP but I sold it and got a 24" and a 20" instead - I prefer it for the things I use it for (playing two EVE Online clients at the same time, for example), though I do miss the sheer size of the 3007WFP from time to time.

ive been running a 1152p 23" panel with a really tight pixel pitch higher than a 30" 1600p monitor. Ive just gone to a 25" 1080p panel and although the pixels are bigger (you cant actually see them still even 30cm away) the image quality is better because with the increased size the game world is easier to see and better delineated. Also you can have less pixels but better black/contrast/motion/colour in my case etc.. so its not all about resolution.

in fact most games seem much better suited to 1080p and id guess in most cases your not actually losing texture detail as its been designed to run at either 720p or 1080p these days.

the overall image isn't out of focus or not clear on my new monitor in fact its perfectly clear its just everything looks a bit bigger which is fine for me.

also movies scaled badly on 1152p from 1080p either using panel or gpu where are 1:1 pixel mapped on 1080p

the resolution on the u2711 really is something [again im thinking of changing my u2410 for a second u2711]

i use windows gadgets, and various docks, with this resolution i can have two web pages and still have room for these things,

i do get motion sickness in games with low FOV on this monitor as its so wide and im less than 2 feet away [30 would be too big i think] but im getting used to it,

my u2410, much as i love it, spends half its time off now to save power, blacks are supiror to the u2410 as is panel uniformity, as with ips its a lot better than tn [can never go back to tn]

the usb ports are useful for phone connection etc or memory stick, and i find tthe rotation and height adjustment brilliant too [another reason i picked a dell]

also dells warranty [as opposed to hazro] gives the reassurance factor

I LOVE MINE

The only potential issue with running a 30" is that if you play a lot of up-to-date games you need a lot of GPU horsepower to run the game at 2560 res with the visual goodies enabled. So not only do you have the cost of the VERY expensive monitor but you will probably have to invest in 1 but probably 2 high end GPU's to get the best from a 30" display.

SLI or Crossfire (in my opinion) is a must for 2560 res.

24" 1900x1200 is probably the sweet spot for PC gaming.

I run a Dell U2410 and GTX 480...match made in heaven.

a 30" monitor and a 580gtx works very well

I went from an NEC 24WMGX3 to the Dell U2711 and have to say it was a nice upgrade...

I have read comments about the coating on the screen of the U2711 giving people problems, but I have never encountered any issues with it myself, so, all in all a really lovely monitor...

I currently have a 2408 and would love the 2711, but it is a lot of money.

My other concern is that my graphics card would quickly become insufficient for the resolution, so as well as the £600-700 for the monitor, I'd need £100 for a new PSU and another £200 for a second 6950.

Is 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 really worth £1k? I can't seem to justify that :/

my 480 plays everything at 30" that i need very well

personally i would go for it if you have the money

Lol... until you actually use it you probably will think this. I've messed arund on 3x 24" monitors before sporting a res of 3600x1920 *3 monitors in portrait* and a single monitor at 2560x1600 imho is miles better so the jump from a single 1920x1200 res monitor to a 30" 2560x1600 unit is just fantastic!
