What's more important to you?

I wouldnt say 3-7 years is regularly buying a new car. I consider myself as somebody who keeps cars for a very long time - and I aim for 5 years!

I'd buy on circumstances or boredom. Seeing as I probably earn less than the average new car a year, buying new is not even a consideration, not even nearly new.

Even if I was in the position, I'd buy what I wanted for the best possible deal so if the cars been available 2 years I'd always look at a second hand first.

It's always a case of "better the devil you know" for me, new cars inevitably have issues but they also have warranties. I think that's what attracts people to them. If you put the money in and have yourself a reliable car it's always going to be difficult to move on, but if you've had a new car with loads of niggles but had them all fixed for free, you're not going to think twice about a new deal on the new model or whatever. I personally hope I'll never fall into that vicious circle.

New (second hand) car every 4 months for me. My attention span is FAR to short to consider reliability or anything boring and long term like that!

Variety is the spice of life! New (not brand new) every 6 months if you can

That would drive me up the wall. I've got to own a car long term, get to know it, really enjoy the ownership period. I'm not a fan of 'old' cars so I need to buy at less than 5 years old, preferably 3 in order to get a good amount of years out of it.

I don't aim to keep my cars for any specific length of time. I just buy what I want whenever I want (budget allowing) and when I get bored I repeat the cycle.

The only real disadvantage is that you always feel like you are missing out on the fun of 'bonding' with a car.

Neither. Had both current cars for over 3 years now I think! Change them when I need to

I've had my car about 15 months now and have no plans for sale. Lots of modification plans though so I guess that keeps the interest levels up.

3 years, 1year, 1year, 3years seems to be my routine.

Depends entirely on circumstances & mood!

I do prefer to have a car, know its history & keep it if possible....

I buy on several factors, if I'm bored of it and want something faster, something sexier is out that makes heart race just thinking about it or it's falling to bits and needs changing before the bills mount up

As a rule of thumb, if you are spending on maint over 2 years the value of the car on the market, you're doing it wrong I guess

Cars tend to be 2 or 3 years, but had the current Focus for 5 now. Keep thinking about changing but it's completely reliable and does what I need out of a sensible car. I have a fun car for the weekend which probably helps me be satisfied with the dull one.

Bikes are different - I get the itch to change every 6 months or so

Me too, why would i want to buy a car spend money sorting the inevitable niggles out then sell it onto someone for a loss?

Some people need to exercise more self control.

Reliability is my main priority, then day to day running costs.

My car sucks but is reliable and cheap to run so it suits us.

Would a more appropriate question be....how many years have you been driving for and how often have you changed your car and for what reasons did you change?

just a thought

Keep the same reliable car for me. First car - 1.2 Astra Merit - purchased at 4 years old and kept for 10 years until scrapped. Current car - MG MGF - purchased at 2 years old and kept for 7 years 4 months so far. When I buy anything I plan on keeping and using it.
