Edinburgh meet. Decision thread.

im lookngi forward to this. hope no one minds a bit of a sarcastic humour!

Flights booked. First time I've flown with a budget airline; can't believe I had to pay for my seats (!!!) and hold luggage. The extras were £40 on top of the £100 flights.

I booked to land at 6.10pm Friday and then noticed Andrew doesn't get there till almost 9pm. If anyone is getting there any earlier, let me know and we could grab a drink somewhere or something.

Flight back is on Sunday at 6.30pm.

I'm not sure what time I'll arrive as I cannot book ahead yet till 12 weeks before the event (i.e. next Sunday), so Sam, if you want, I can book to arrive around 6ish and we can meet up before Andrew arrives?

Just a small note. Once Sam lands and gets himself sorted at the airport Hell need to get the airport shuttle bus into Edinburgh which will take sound 45 mins before it stops at waverly bridge above the station.

Since we don't get there till late, It would probably be a good idea to pick a pub or similar meeting place where folk could meet up on Friday evening.

Would anyone with local knowledge care to make a suggestion?

The apartment is here:

I'll suggest a couple of places later on and put up a map as well. For the life of me I can't remember if there's a place in the station that you can get a drink or whether its just food places.

As it's Friday night, I won't be surprised if many places are packed! Maybe I should bring a tourist sign that says OcUK Photography Meet Here (with an arrow pointing over) :p

Thanks for the offer Colin. It'd be cool to meet up, but let's see where Derek recommends and work out from that what time people can meet. Otherwise, I'll be happy wandering of my own. I'll have the tripod for protection just in case, lol.

Just had a look on the map to see that you're at the opposite end of princess street to the station. There was a place called Uluru (oz themed bar) which had mucho cheapo drinko :D but it appears to be taken over by a place called Mr Modos 'where music matters' apparently. Thats probably the closest place to the apartment you're staying at. For anyone coming in from the airport its probably best to get off at Shandwick Place or first stop on Princess Street, then go up Lothian Road to that pub. Anyone arriving from the station will either have to get a bus from princess street (will check on the number) to Lothain road (will need to check which stop is closest as well one at Bread Street / Grindlay)

Will post more information this evening. Alternatively there are a few pubs just up from the station which is more central if anyone is feared! which i can also post up and sort out directions / transport from there to Lothian Road. :)

as if by magic I've appeared ;)

Right now I'm free Friday night, so I may be up for coming through for both days.
I've got a shoot on Sunday though so won't be able to manage that.

I'll keep you updated re: shifts, as that's subject to change!

I've bought my train tickets!
Just under £30 return, not as expensive as I initially feared.

Anyway, I'll arrive half 9 at Haymarket station and head home 4ish on Sunday~

Edinburgh Waverly is the central one, thats about a mile out from the centre of town. did you mean to do that?

The apartment is 2 streets away compared to the central... plus, with my ticket, I should be able to jump in from central as all my connection goes there... unless I've made a BIG Boo Boo?

Actually had a look at the map and thats probably the best stop :( mistake by me :D

I want to go but the way things are I'll be on the side of a football pitch somewhere taking photos :(

But that dont really matter,
Cos I'm a Brechin City fan,
And I can drive a tractor"
