gtx570 or Ati 6970?

my budget is £300 top's want to get a new card for Rift and swtor when it comes out as my 4890 is only getting me 20-40fps on ultra settings in rift at moment.
ive heard people saying ati is best and others saying nvidia is best, but which do you think will be best for me?
my motherboard is a crossfire board somebody told me i cant use nvidia because of that but i think thats a lie.
my system is:
i7 920
6 gig ram
p6t se
780w psu
i use a resolution of 1680x1050

if you plan on staying at 1680X1050 then a gtx560 would be more than enough for your needs

well duh I meant if you planned on upgrading your monitor then you might want to get either 570 or 6970, if not, then you can just get a gtx 560

Its about 30% faster at your resolution. Heres a review that tests lots of older and new games. Link to the overall summary page below.

You could go for the 6950 option and Unlock the shaders so its basically a 6970. This would save you money and get you one of the original cards you wanted.

Its 45% faster. I am basing this off the 5830 which is pretty much as fast as a 4890.

the gtx 560 will tear through anything you throw at it at 1680X1050, hell even a gtx 460 would be enough

i think i will get one of them msi twin frozr cards, either a 560 or 570
then i wont have to worry about it ever over heating

The 2 cards above is what i would go for. There is no point in getting a 6970 or a gtx570 when you can get a 6950 and make it into a 6970. I picked the chepest gtx560 as paying any more is stupid when you can get a much faster card.

If its the twin frozr cooler you want then i can't see one in the gtx570 section so heres the 2 thats in your range.

I might be totally wrong but i thought i7 was x58 chipset. If this is the case he probably can run sli and crossfire.

Good catch. OP can't have i7 on a P45.

@OP you need to correct your specs.

And yes, you can always run a single card on any board.

Maybe a P55? Some can do SLI some can't.

P6TSE is X58 chipset and can not can do SLI.

The board is an x58 chipset and can do crossfire on 2 lanes at pci-2 at 16x.

The review i read said it does not currently support sli but its quit old and may not be the case any more i will look into it.
