Crysis 2 Leaked

yeah anyone who beta tested it could have this build but to have full game makes me think ex employee to be honest or someone bit higher up.

Well its apparently watermarked as some point as an internal use only build. So it really falls on their shoulders that they lost sight of it and it got leaked. People are downloading it yes, but after the shoddy performance of the first game this by all accounts seem to run much better. Maybe that will swing things in cryteks direction? Hard to say but if the performace is upto snuff hopefully people will buy it instead of pirating it.

Ive been around a few forums and most people seem to be pleasently suprised at the screenshots doing the rounds especially considering its dx9 mode.

As I said, this assumes an employee of Crytek was the source. While this is of course a solid likelihood it is far from the only possibility and those other possibilities are also far from far fetched. I know this having had a cleaner borrow my credit card and bank card details a few years back.

The fact that the leak included the SolidShield master key is something obvious that it's completely an internal leak. The SolidShield software is on other EA games, which is basically used to activate the product online to prove it's genuine. That master key can be used to effectively authenticate any game EA have produced with use SolidShield, like Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 being 3 of the most recent examples. This is something which will never ever be given to anyone except someone to do with Crytek or EA.

The only other thing it could have been is someone hacking in to the servers and gaining a copy of the game like what happened with HL2, but the chances of that compared to an internal leak?

I love how the PC community gets tarred as pirates as soon as something like this happens, it's basically the same as handing some random person off the streets your car keys, saying "Hey, there's my car, and I'm going to give you the keys, but don't steal it please." what do you honestly think will happen?

I keep thinking this has the hallmarks of a planned beta release made to look like a leak, like with DRM's etc left in place but utterly pointless and un-useable etc.

Yup, I reckon this smacks of an intentional/planned leak.

No doubt they've spent most of their time on the console versions and knew the PC version wouldn't be in a fit state for release on the 22nd March.

Now they have a perfect excuse to delay it. Of course my inner conspiracy theorist could just be working overtime.

Wow, I am actually taking a visit to Crytek UK in a couple of weeks. Will be interesting to see the impact this has on the staffs attitudes.

Sad news for them.

You're talking about an engine firmly rooted in PC gaming which has been updated to work on consoles. I'm not even really that convinced you understand what something being ported actually means.

Most of the time when people say 'port' they mean a game thats primarily designed for consoles, so not really a port as such (the engine scales you get added dx11 bells n whistles for the PC version) but you just wonder how fundamentally different a game would be if it were PC only.

It astounds me that so many people think the leak came from Crytek. Are you all actually mad? Seriously?!

Fortunately, Housey seems to have common sense.

The video game industry generally works in a horizontal integration; this means that many different people from many different companies of many different sizes all work on the same project. It's a big machine. It's not just Crytek and EA, there are so many other organisations involved.

Leaks don't come from the big developers. They come from smaller companies that have been contractually outsourced by the financiers. They come from small-time members of the press who for some, unknown reason have got a name for themselves and managed to bag a preview copy. "Who" exactly leaks it, we don't know, common sense says it's someone low-down in the chain who doesn't understand the business.

Don't even get me started on the theory that Crytek is committing self corporate espionage to warrant what format their development budget goes to. Some of you smoke way too much weed.

So you think this developer version which includes a master key to activate every EA game using SolidShield was given to outsourced companies, or even to someone as a "preview copy"?

You realise that people will do this out of spite/disagreements within the company, it could even be an employee who knew he was getting fired, thus leaked it as a "**** you" to Crytek and EA.

It is bizarre that people are blaming Crytek, saying it is their own fault and other nonsense. Why on Earth would they leak it deliberately?

Also, there does seem to be a massive persecution complex amongst a good few PC gamers and a feeling that they're entitled to preferential treatment because they spend so much on hardware. I regret spending money on an i5 mobo and CPU with the necessary DDR3 memory. It really does not make my life better but nobody made me buy it. I'll just have to deal with a faster MS Excel :p

Hopefully, when it is realeased, it is a good game. But this is a real setback.

I'm interested in knowing how finished it is myself. I have no intentions of downloading it but for the sake of curiosity it would be nice to know what stage of "completeness" it is in with the release date drawing so close.

Will probably find out if I root around the net a bit.

90% is done

High graphics are in
DX9 is in, DX10 and DX11 aren't yet done
Some weapon sounds are done, not all are done
95% of textures are done, there's a few missing on little bits, like part of aliens/inside certain buildings.

I would avoid the leak like the plague if you are in any way interested in Crysis 2. From what i have seen (was watching a guy stream it at 5am this morning...) there are MANY issues with the leak, i posted in the other Crysis 2 thread but i will post here as well just as a warning.

On top of the texture issues Aedus mentions i saw all of the following in part of the first chapter alone:

Missing scripts/event triggers.
Missing animations.
Missing AI routines.
Audio is a complete mess (severe glitches and missing sounds).
Regular crashes/freezes on load/save and the weapon menus.
Many objects with incorrect physics properties, or no physics at all.

At least until PC gamers develop some semblance of respect for developers, and drop the self-entitlement attitude which piracy encourages. I'd like to think that TweakGuides readers will respect Crytek enough not to download this leaked version and wait for the official demo.

How about the developers get some respect for PC Gamers?
