Crysis 2 Leaked

Well this is what Koroush Ghazi has to say from TweakGuides and he is spot on:)

A pre-release PC version of Crysis 2 has been leaked. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say that it is now spreading rapidly through piracy channels, and people are using the usual excuses to justify obtaining something which does not rightfully belong to them. For Crytek, the developers of Crysis 2, this is yet another slap in the face. Crytek pushed the boundaries of PC gaming first in 2004 with Far Cry, then in 2007 with the PC-exclusive Crysis - and faced a backlash from PC gamers for doing precisely that. To add insult to injury, despite a full-featured free demo of the game being available before its release, Crysis went on to become the fourth most pirated game of 2008. Persevering, Crytek decided to invest resources into developing a customized PC version of Crysis 2. This leak, combined with statistics like Call of Duty: Black Ops, the biggest hit of 2010, being pirated 4.3 million times on the PC, versus 930,000 times on the XBox 360, yet the PC version making up only 6% of sales, makes you wonder if any major developer will consider PC gaming worth the bother in the future. MMOs, casual puzzle games and multiplayer games, as well as quick console ports, are about all that seem to be viable now on the PC. At least until PC gamers develop some semblance of respect for developers, and drop the self-entitlement attitude which piracy encourages. I'd like to think that TweakGuides readers will respect Crytek enough not to download this leaked version and wait for the official demo.

just another nail in the coffin of PC gaming.

I have never downloaded pirate game or music because i want the coders/artists to keep making the things i like.

Now TV series/films are another matter i do download these, i wouldn't if there was good digital distribution at a low cost...any film i want to see i go to the cinema for if possible if not im not going to spend £15 on a bluray to watch the thing once and put on a shelf. (though i have a collection of over 300 dvds)

Again, don't be mentioning if you have downloaded the game on this forum, or else the thread will be closed and those who have mentioned that they have might get a wee holiday as well and of course the abuse from some members on here :p

Anyway, here we go, just typical, statement from EA

Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22. Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion. Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.

See if they make a big deal of this again and use some lame excuse as to why we might not get a demo/beta now and about PC piracy issues, they can forget about getting my money for this game and any other games that they release in the future.

EDIT:

Also, just to let people know that they have confirmed that the PC will get dedicated servers, that's if this leak doesn't change their minds.

I'm sure they won't make a big deal out of this, I mean there is not much they can do now.

Everyone knows Crysis and Warhead were quality games and I'm sure people will have the sense to support the developer with Crysis 2 as well.

What exactly is untrue about this statement?

Piracy is just as bad as it is on the PC for the consoles, plus also is there not a leak of the 360 game as well?

So if the 360 version did get leaked as well and dll by loads of people they should address that to them as well and not just us all the time

EDIT:

Plus the fact that it was obviously someone from there end who did this on purpose.

how can they actually blame pc gamers for this is unbelievable.. i mean seriously NO ONE has access to those files except the employees of the CRYTEK they are to blame them selves for not securing it properly..

There's often mass bannings of 360 consoles when they play a game that's leaked early. This completely removes that 360 from the online aspect forever unless they buy a new console. That's a deterrent that PC lacks, there's no repercussions for people that pirate it on the PC.

Clearly EA make enough money from the 360 despite piracy, or else they wouldn't be ignoring it and complaining about PC piracy. But then you seem to be acting as if it's some form of conspiracy to kill off PC gaming.

I'll humour this however, so go on, why are EA complaining about the PC leak and not the 360?

^this

EA's attitude on their PR is a joke, trying to pin it on the PC community.

I keep thinking this has the hallmarks of a planned beta release made to look like a leak, like with DRM's etc left in place but utterly pointless and un-useable etc.
I think that those who DL this won't actually buy the finished game, because there's a possibility they might not actually like it, which will lose EA/Crytek money, and damaged future devs.
Just say Treyarch had released a playable demo for CODBO on PC, I think a large proportion wouldn't have bought it on release, certainly not as many who did.

The cause is not the community, of that there is little question, but the PC community doesn't help itself by consuming it like the plague when it does become available perhaps..

The console users would do exactly the same thing but as usual the only thing that seems to make headlines is devs whining about pc piracy while ignoring it for consoles.
